Position description

Clinician UCSF Adult Urgent Care

UCSF Health seeks a clinically skilled, patient-centric clinician to provide evidence-based adult urgent care in two locations: the Screening and Acute Care Clinic located at the Parnassus campus, and Bayfront Same Day Urgent Care, which is on the Mission Bay campus and will be opening in August of 2024. Although the position is primarily clinical, we seek a candidate with an interest and ability to provide education to interns/residents and the desire to partner with the medical director to develop innovations in patient care, medical education, and administrative efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

Overall responsibilities

The UCSF Urgent Care Clinician will provide direct patient care to adults in the newly remodeled UCSF Screening and Acute Care and/or the newly constructed Bayfront Urgent Care Clinics with an expected productivity of 10 patients in a 4-hour shift, (a full orientation and a "ramp up" will be provided prior to full productivity expectations). 40 hours of direct patient care per week is expected in a full-time appointment at one or a combination of the two urgent care sites. At SACC, shifts are currently 4 hours in length- on weekdays the schedule is 8am to 12pm, 1pm-5pm, and 4pm-8pm. On weekends our current schedule is 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm (with increasing volume, a 4pm to 8pm weekend shift may be added). SACC is open most holidays. At Bayfront, the hours will be 8a-8p and the shift length may be flexible, ranging from 4-12 hours. Bayfront will be open 7 days a week. All shifts, including weekends, will be equitably divided among the Urgent Care Clinician, the Medical Director, and SACC NP(s) (with the remainder staffed by faculty from other academic departments).

In addition to providing direct clinical care, the Urgent Care Clinician may provide input regarding protocols for efficient patient triage, and clinic flow at both locations. At SACC, where there are NPs on staff, the Clinician will supervise the clinical care of Nurse Practitioners and provide consultation when needed. They will work collegially with clinic nurses and administrative staff at both locations.

UCSF may increase the number urgent care clinics on campus, and the UCSF Urgent Care Clinician is expected to participate in the implementation of the expanded services.

Specific Responsibilities:

1) The Urgent Care Clinician will spend most of their time providing acute clinical care to UCSF patients

2) Precept and mentor Nurse Practitioners who work in the clinic

3) Actively participate in the implementation of the UCSF Lean Healthcare system

4) Participate in UCSF executive and planning meetings that impact acute care when appropriate and when asked.

5) Provide bedside teaching for housestaff and medical students

6) Be available to provide cross-coverage for the SACC medical director and NP(s) due to illness, conferences, and vacations.

7) Refer any quality concerns raised by patient relations and risk management to the Medical Director at SACC or Bayfront sites.

8) Review lab and radiology results generated in the clinic, and partner with nursing to provide appropriate follow up

9) Participate in True North and clinic huddle rounds.

10) Provide input to improve referral strategies for specialty evaluation and ED transfers
