About the Job

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota invites applications for postdoctoral research associate position from candidates with a Ph.D., degree, and with a record of outstanding training in gene therapy and regenerative medicine in neuroscience research. Areas of focus include the use of gene engineering technologies for cell reprogramming in spinal cord and traumatic brain injury, and other neurological disorders. The candidate should exhibit evidence of exceptional potential for independent research.

The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting research using animal models of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other animal models of neurological disorders. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of research needs as they relate to the development of cellular, gene, and viral therapeutics. The candidate should have a record of presenting research results through publications and presentations.

Principal Duties and responsibilities
1. Conduct regenerative medicine research for neurological disorders.
2. Originate research ideas
3.Collect, analyze and interpret data
4. Write manuscripts for publications
6. Supervise undergraduate, graduate students, and junior scientists working on related research projects

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
* PhD degree in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related science field
* Experience in conducting research using animal models of neurological disorders
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others across departments
* Strong record of presenting research results through publications and conference abstracts

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in establishing animal models of neurological disorders
* Expertise in surgical methods to introduce cell and gene therapies in animal models of neurological disorders
* Expertise in the behavioral analyses and histological analysis of brain tissue.
* Expertise with molecular biology and cell biology techniques to assess mechanisms of action.
* Experience with grant writing

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 (Year 0) - $74,088 (Year 7); depending on education/qualifications/experience, per NIH Guidelines.
