SUMMARY

Ajax Building Company, part of STO Building Group, is seeking a QA/QC Engineer to support construction quality on mission critical projects, including data centers.

This on-site role works with project teams, trade partners, and inspectors to verify installation quality, resolve deficiencies, maintain inspection and testing records, and support commissioning and turnover. Assigned scopes may include civil, structural, and architectural (CSA) work or mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, depending on expertise and project needs. Discipline specialists are welcome; experience across multiple disciplines is preferred.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support the implementation and ongoing execution of project-specific quality plans, procedures, and inspection requirements.

  • Review construction drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and manufacturer requirements to understand acceptance criteria and identify potential quality concerns.

  • Conduct and document field inspections within assigned scopes to verify that materials, equipment, and installations meet approved project requirements.

  • Support quality reviews of assigned CSA or MEP work, which may include sitework, concrete, structural systems, building envelope, interior finishes, or critical building systems, in coordination with discipline specialists and trade partners.

  • Participate in quality walks, pre-installation meetings, and first-install reviews to establish expectations before and during construction.

  • Coordinate and track required third-party inspections, testing activities, quality checklists, and supporting documentation.

  • Maintain the project's definable features of work log and related quality meeting schedules in coordination with project and field teams.

  • Identify and document deficiencies and nonconforming work, communicate issues to the appropriate team members, and track corrective actions through verified completion.

  • Verify that required inspections, testing, and corrective actions within assigned scopes are completed and documented before affected work is concealed or subsequent construction activities proceed.

  • Coordinate with other quality team members to identify and address issues where construction disciplines overlap.

  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, testing records, photographs, deficiency logs, and other quality documentation within the project's designated platforms.

  • Prepare quality status reports that summarize inspection progress, open issues, recurring concerns, and corrective action status.

  • Support commissioning readiness by tracking installation deficiencies, verifying completion of assigned quality checks, and organizing required documentation.

  • Assist with punch list tracking, final inspections, and the collection of quality records required for project closeout and turnover.

  • Coordinate quality training related to upcoming work and share lessons learned to help prevent recurring issues.

  • Reinforce Ajax's commitment to safety, integrity, and teamwork while supporting a proactive culture of quality.

  • Perform additional assignments and special projects as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three years of construction quality assurance or quality control experience required; experience on data center, mission critical, large commercial, or healthcare projects preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience supporting quality activities in one or more construction disciplines, including civil, structural, and architectural (CSA), mechanical, or electrical. Specialized discipline experience is welcome; experience across multiple disciplines is preferred.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and technical documents within the candidate's area of expertise.

  • Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, inspection and testing processes, and applicable codes and standards relevant to assigned scopes.

  • Experience documenting inspections, tracking deficiencies, and coordinating corrective actions.

  • Ability to recognize coordination issues between disciplines and work with appropriate specialists to resolve them.

  • Familiarity with commissioning readiness, construction closeout, and turnover documentation preferred.

  • Familiarity with quality management and construction software, including Autodesk Construction Cloud/ACC Build and Smartsheet, preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project teams, trade partners, inspectors, and owner representatives.

  • Quality certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or USACE Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM-C) preferred.

  • Ability to work on-site at an active construction project and perform regular field inspections.
