What to Expect
Tesla SI Hardware team is revolutionizing Super intelligence and looking for a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to develop, cool and integrate the next generation of high-density AI data centers powered by Dojo - our custom supercomputer. We are looking for candidates of all experience levels for this opening. The role involves mechanical design, integration and cross functional collaboration on the full system design from chip to rack. We will explore thermal mechanical cooling system, high speed interconnection, high power delivery to push the physical limits of compute density and system efficiency. A deep understanding of the fundamentals of mechanics, material, heat transfer, high speed signal integration and power delivery; the ability to break down complex engineering problems into fundamentals is a must. Creative thinking, ability to solve complex and challenging problems, and ability to work independently are of paramount importance. This position involves working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with tight timing and dynamic constraints.
What You'll Do
- Own mechanical design of cold plates & coolant interfaces, high density connection system, entire tray and rack system, including development of 3D CAD and 2D drawings
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to define product requirements, integrate and develop cooling solutions and interconnection for high-performance custom silicon
- Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production
- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up
- Optimize components for high volume production, reliability and serviceability
- Participate in prototype builds, component fabrication, testing and validation efforts. Provide hands-on supportat both prototype and production stages
- Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, test data analysis, and troubleshooting of design issues
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated successful experience in mechanical engineering product development, including part design and in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, stamping, brazing, etc.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamental knowledge including materials stress/strain, mechanics & statics, and heat transfer
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
- Proficiency in tolerance analysis, quality control, data and statistical analysis, failure analysis, and GD&T
- Proficiency in CAD modeling and analysis; CATIA and ANSYS experience highly valued but not required
- Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.
- 5-10% of travel is expected
