Job Description

ADI | Aerospace Manufacturing
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Engineering
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

ADI is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of Manufacturing Engineers supporting the production of complex, build-to-print aerospace components and assemblies.

This position is responsible for providing both technical and organizational leadership across Manufacturing Engineering, with primary responsibility for New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing process development, continuous improvement, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), and the engineering systems and manufacturing data infrastructure used to control these processes.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager will work closely with Operations, CNC Programming, Quality, Planning, Supply Chain, and Program Management to ensure products are successfully transitioned from customer requirements into stable, repeatable, efficient, and well-controlled production processes.

The role will also serve as the Manufacturing Engineering functional owner for key ERP, PLM, and related engineering and manufacturing systems, ensuring the integrity of manufacturing data, configuration control, engineering workflows, and the effective flow of technical information from customer requirements through shop-floor execution.

The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with a deep technical background in CNC machining and aerospace manufacturing and is comfortable working directly with engineers, programmers, machinists, quality personnel, and operations leadership to solve complex manufacturing problems.

Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Manufacturing Engineers responsible for supporting aerospace manufacturing operations.
  • Establish priorities, assign engineering resources, and manage workload based on production requirements, NPI schedules, customer commitments, and business objectives.
  • Develop the technical capabilities of the Manufacturing Engineering organization through coaching, training, standardization, and knowledge sharing.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for engineering deliverables, project execution, manufacturing documentation, systems discipline, and problem resolution.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to ensure Manufacturing Engineering resources are aligned with both short-term production needs and long-term manufacturing strategy.
  • Establish and maintain standardized Manufacturing Engineering processes, methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of technical rigor, ownership, urgency, data-driven decision making, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop organizational capability and succession plans to ensure the Manufacturing Engineering team can support the future growth and technical needs of the business.
New Product Introduction
  • Lead Manufacturing Engineering activities associated with New Product Introduction from initial planning through production stabilization.
  • Review customer engineering requirements, drawings, models, specifications, and contractual requirements to develop comprehensive manufacturing strategies.
  • Coordinate the development of manufacturing processes, routings, work instructions, tooling requirements, CNC programming requirements, inspection strategies, and process qualifications.
  • Conduct manufacturing readiness reviews and ensure critical technical, schedule, quality, and manufacturing risks are identified and mitigated before production launch.
  • Coordinate engineering activities required to support First Article Inspection and the transition of products into repeatable production.
  • Monitor NPI performance against schedule, cost, quality, and manufacturing readiness objectives.
  • Establish clear ownership and accountability for NPI engineering deliverables.
  • Drive lessons learned from NPI projects back into estimating, planning, programming, tooling, manufacturing standards, and future manufacturing strategies.
Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and maintain a prioritized Manufacturing Engineering continuous improvement project portfolio aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Use production, quality, and financial data to identify opportunities for improvement in:
    • Setup time
    • Labor efficiency
    • Scrap and rework
    • Tooling performance
    • Process capability
    • Manufacturing cost
  • Lead cross-functional improvement projects involving Engineering, Operations, Quality, CNC Programming, Planning, and other support organizations.

  • Ensure improvement projects produce measurable and sustainable operational and financial results.
  • Standardize successful improvements and implement lessons learned across applicable products and manufacturing processes.
  • Establish reporting and visibility of continuous improvement project status, benefits, risks, and results.
Root Cause & Corrective Action
  • Lead and support RCCA investigations involving manufacturing defects, process variation, recurring quality issues, customer concerns, and production disruptions.
  • Ensure engineering teams distinguish between symptoms, contributing factors, escape points, and verified root causes.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies such as 5-Why, Fishbone, Pareto analysis, process mapping, capability analysis, and 8D.
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions that eliminate recurrence rather than relying solely on containment.
  • Verify corrective action effectiveness using objective production and quality data.
  • Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into manufacturing documentation, planning, tooling, training, engineering systems, and standard work as appropriate.
Engineering Systems & Manufacturing Data Management
  • Serve as the Manufacturing Engineering functional owner for key engineering and manufacturing systems, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and related manufacturing information systems.
  • Ensure engineering-controlled manufacturing data is accurate, complete, appropriately structured, and maintained throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain standards for engineering data and configuration within ERP and PLM systems, including:
