Summary:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations. This is for an IOP location, candidate will be working by themselves so HM is looking for skilled phlebotomist who can draw hard stick geriatric patients. Will be handling patient registration, specimen processing and draws can range daily from 10 to 30 patients

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect, label, process, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
  • Verify patient information and accurately match specimens with laboratory requisitions.
  • Explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain specimen integrity through proper handling, storage, and transportation.
  • Update patient information and document specimen collection accurately.
  • Perform equipment maintenance and decontamination as required.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.
  • Answer phone calls and assist with laboratory-related inquiries.
  • Participate in required departmental training and maintain quality standards.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital or high-volume laboratory setting.
  • Overall 2-4 years of healthcare/phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Experience processing and handling laboratory specimens.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong communication and patient care skills.
  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification if required by state regulations.
