Recognized as a technology leader, Sanmina Corporation provides end-to-end manufacturing solutions, delivering superior quality and support to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) primarily in the communications networks, defense and aerospace, industrial and semiconductor systems, medical, multimedia, computing and storage, automotive and clean technology sectors. Sanmina Corporation has facilities strategically located in key regions throughout the world. Test Engineer (2nd Shift) Job Purpose: The Test Engineer conducts routine electrical, mechanical, and high-voltage diagnostic testing on Medium Voltage (MV) transformers and power distribution equipment. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will support late-day manufacturing workflows to ensure finished products comply with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, and NEMA safety and quality specifications prior to release. This hands-on, shift-focused role involves operating precision diagnostic test systems, compiling test data, and executing baseline troubleshooting alongside production teams. Nature of Duties:
- Routine Electrical Testing: Perform core electrical tests on MV transformers, including winding resistance, insulation resistance, Turns Ratio (TTR), vector group verification, excitation current, and no-load/load loss measurements.
- High Voltage & Dielectric Testing: Assist in executing high-voltage dielectric tests, such as applied voltage (separate source) and induced overvoltage withstand testing, maintaining full adherence to high-voltage safety margins.
- 2nd Shift Production Support: Execute tests during evening shifts to keep production timelines on track. Maintain detailed pass/fail logs and lead shift handovers to communicate technical non-conformances to daytime engineering teams.
- Data Processing & Certified Reports: Process raw measurement metrics, cross-reference output against design spec sheets, and draft preliminary Certified Test Reports using standard templates.
- Preliminary Troubleshooting: Identify initial test failures, document symptom profiles, perform basic root-cause diagnostic evaluations, and escalate structural or design defects to senior test engineers.
- Equipment Verification & Setup: Perform pre-shift functional checks and calibration verifications on test instruments (power analyzers, insulation sets) to ensure test bays remain compliant and ready.
- Safety Protocols: Follow high-voltage safety practices, including mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) utilization, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and zero-energy state verifications.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET). Recent Graduates encouraged to apply.
- Experience: 0-2 years of relevant experience (academic lab work, co-ops, or internships in power engineering, electrical machines, or high-voltage systems are highly valued).
- Availability: Must be able to consistently work a dedicated 2nd shift schedule. (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM Flexible Evening Hours)
- Technical Fundamentals:
- Knowledge of transformer operations, electromagnetic theory, and 3-phase power distribution circuits.
- Familiarity with electrical test instrumentation (e.g., Megger, Doble, Omicron, or similar diagnostic test equipment).
- Working knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEMA).
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail, clear written/verbal communication for shift handoffs, strong analytical skills, and adaptability in a active manufacturing environment.
