Costpoint Accountant / Payroll Specialist

Why this role exists

Veilant is growing, and our Finance team needs someone who can take real ownership of the accounting work that keeps the business moving.

One of the first things you will take over is payroll, transitioning that responsibility from our Controller. From there, you will become a key part of our monthly close, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and the continued evolution of our finance processes.

We are not looking for someone to simply inherit a checklist.

We want someone who understands Costpoint, knows government contracting accounting, and sees an inefficient process and naturally starts thinking about how to make it better.

The work

You will own and support work that directly affects the accuracy and reliability of our financial operation.

Your core areas of ownership will include:

• Payroll processing, reconciliation, and issue resolution
• General ledger accounting and journal entries in Deltek Costpoint
• Month end close and account reconciliations
• Subledger to general ledger reconciliation and discrepancy research
• Accounting records aligned with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and government contracting requirements
• Partnership with Accounting, FP&A, and other teams across the business
• Process documentation, improvement, and automation

This is a hands on accounting role, but we want you thinking beyond the transaction.

• If something takes ten steps and should take five, we want you to notice.
• If a process lives in someone's head, we want you to help document it.
• If Costpoint can be used more effectively, we want you asking how.

What success looks like

We want you to know what good looks like before you ever join us.

Within your first six months, you should be able to:

• Independently own our recurring payroll process with a high degree of accuracy
• Understand how Veilant's accounting processes fit together from payroll through close and financial reporting
• Navigate our Costpoint workflows confidently
• Own recurring reconciliations and investigate discrepancies through resolution
• Build strong working relationships across Accounting and FP&A
• Identify processes that can be simplified, documented, or automated
• Create repeatable workflows that make the Finance team more scalable
• Become someone the team trusts to take ownership and follow work through to completion

You will probably thrive here if

• You have at least 3 years of hands on Deltek Costpoint accounting experience.
• You have processed payroll yourself, not simply reviewed someone else's work.
• You understand general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and month end close.
• You have working knowledge of GAAP, FAR, and CAS.
• You are comfortable investigating why numbers do not tie instead of passing the problem to someone else.
• You like structure, but you are also comfortable helping create structure when it does not exist yet.
• You care about getting the details right and meeting deadlines.

You do not need everything

• These would help, but they are not requirements:
• An active security clearance
• Billing or accounts receivable experience
• A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field
• Paycom experience
• Previous audit experience

• You are looking for a narrowly defined accounting job where every process is already documented and unlikely to change.
• You prefer staying within one small piece of the accounting cycle.
• You want to execute existing processes but are not interested in improving them.
• You have used Costpoint occasionally but have not worked in it deeply enough to independently navigate accounting workflows.

What is the Compensation Range for this role?

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000 annually for full-time status. Actual compensation within this range at Veilant is determined by numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, including experience, education, certifications, technical skills, as well as contract-specific affordability and labor categories, the scope and responsibilities of the role, market and business considerations, and geographic location.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office
• Constantly work with computers and other information technology equipment
