RESPONSIBILITIES // Ultimately, the Field Technician is responsible for the success of field operations to support project completion. 1. General // a. Oversee CobbFendley's warehouse operations, fleet logistics, and equipment inventory within the regional discipline. b. Lead coordination with project managers and internal teams, including scheduling and coordinating field crews. c. Perform routine and complex assignments without supervision in a lead role and may work independently as a one-person field crew. d. Assist in reviewing daily field reports, project records, and field folders. e. Assist in supervising direct reports by reviewing and approving timesheets and ETO requests, addressing minor disciplinary issues (and escalating more serious cases to Department Manager and/or HR Department), conducting timely and constructive performance evaluations, and monitoring workload and utilization, escalating concerns as needed. f. Responsible for safely operating equipment. g. Travel locally and out of state, including overnights. h. May operate a variety of vehicles, including large vehicles with or without attached trailers, as needed to support specific operational tasks, and perform routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient use. i. May cross train to perform other field services (Telecommunications, Survey, SUE). 2. Safety + Compliance // a. Perform hazard analysis before performing field work and prepare safety documents. b. Ensure all field crews have appropriate plans, documents, EPE, and safety supplies before leaving for field work. c. Comply with all safety procedures: Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Emergency Action Plans (EAP), Project Safety Plans (PSP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures. d. Ensures QA/QC of own work and work of project team that individual is responsible for. e. Identifying and evaluating potential hazards in the work environment. f. Properly selecting and using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self and team that individual is responsible for. g. Understanding of Traffic Control Plans (TCP). h. Serve as a subject matter expert on Federal, State, and local codes, regulations, and standards governing projects in their respective field. 3. Technical // a. Provide direct people leadership for field technicians and coordinators, fostering a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. b. Lead and manage day-to-day field operations across multiple projects or geographic areas, ensuring alignment with OSP broadband design, construction plans, and delivery schedules. c. Apply expert-level understanding of OSP broadband networks to guide technical decisions, resolve escalations, and support successful project execution. d. Set clear performance expectations, conduct coaching, mentoring, and performance reviews, and support career development for team members. e. Own field execution outcomes, including productivity, quality, safety, and schedule adherence. f. Coordinate staffing, workload balancing, and resource allocation to meet operational demands. g. Serve as the primary escalation point for technical, safety, personnel, and delivery issues within the field organization. h. Partner with engineering, construction management, permitting, and operations leadership to align field execution with business objectives. i. Review and approve field documentation, as-builts, redlines, and operational reports prior to final submission. j. Ensure consistent application of field standards, safety practices, and documentation procedures across teams. k. Monitor field quality, rework, safety incidents, and production, and implement corrective actions as needed. l. Lead make-ready, joint-use, and permitting coordination by ensuring field readiness and technical alignment. m. Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, data quality, and constructability. n. Support incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning for safety, quality, or delivery events in partnership with Safety. o. Represent the field organization in planning meetings, stakeholder briefings, and executive updates. p. Perform small cell site walks, photo docs, and constructability checks for poles, rooftops, and ground mounts. q. Verify utility service for power and backhaul availability. r. Document zoning and permitting related site photos, boundaries, and adjacency constraints. s. Provide permit package field inputs. t. Collect pole loading and make ready measurement details. PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS + ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Tasks are divided between indoor and outdoor settings, with approximately 80% of duties performed in outdoor environments and 20% in indoor office or warehouse spaces. Cognitive Requirements. Selective attention, oral comprehension, oral expression, speech recognition, speech clarity, written comprehension, written expression, problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, number facility, information ordering, category flexibility, flexibility of closure, fluency of ideas, and originality. Must remain alert and responsive while working in lane closure zones adjacent to high-traffic and dynamic areas. Physical Abilities. Includes hand-eye coordination, steadiness, upper and lower body strength, control precision, stamina, multi-limb coordination, static strength, manual dexterity, and depth perception. Extended periods of sitting and standing in an upright position at a workstation or job site. Movement within the office and job sites, including navigating between floors, workstations, high-traffic areas, and various walking surfaces. Forward flexion, extension, or lateral rotation of the head and neck while using multiple computer screens. Repetitive finger movements for operating a computer mouse and typing on a keyboard. Includes activities such as reaching, bending, stooping, carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling. Extending hands and arms in various directions, such as overhead, below the waist, forward, or laterally. Raising or lowering objects from one level to another and transporting objects by holding them in the hands, arms, or over the shoulder. Capable of lifting, carrying, and balancing equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds in various environments, including remote, rural, or urban settings. Ability to walk long distances (3+ miles) and climb on uneven surfaces. Office Conditions. Includes extensive use of electronic devices such as computers, printers, copiers, scanners, plotters, and telephones. Additionally, tasks may involve the use of cutting tools and equipment like rotary paper cutters and plotting devices. Outdoor Conditions. Includes walking and climbing on uneven surfaces, confined spaces, and exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat and freezing temperatures). Potential exposure to high noise levels and various allergens, including poison ivy, sumac, dust, pollen, and cedar. Potential exposure to wildlife hazards such as animals, insects, and plants. Ability to move effectively in and around construction sites, traffic work zones, and other outdoor assignments. Safety and Equipment Use. Regular use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, along with use of pneumatic, hand and power tools. Driving and Vehicle Use. May involve driving large pick-up trucks with attached trailers, potentially operating watercraft, and for extended periods of time. EXPECTED WORK HOURS This is a full-time position, generally 40 hours per week, however, hours may fluctuate depending on department needs including the use of overtime. CobbFendley's standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM CST. Generally, employees receive a 1-hour unpaid lunch break free of duty. Please note, operating hours and lunch hours may differ based on project workload, primarily for field staff.
