Job Summary

The Loudoun County Department of Building and Development is looking for a dynamic, collaborative leader to serve as Engineering Division Manager. The role calls for someone who combines strong leadership and technical expertise with the judgment to manage strategically and the communication skills to build excellent working relationships across County government, the development community, and the public. As a member of the Department's senior staff, the Engineering Division Manager runs the day-to-day operations of a workgroup of more than 20 staff, including four direct reports. The manager works to build stronger cooperation across work groups, apply codes and regulations consistently and fairly, and oversee the Division's budget and strategic initiatives. The job also means regular contact with a wide range of people: the County Attorney's Office, state code and investigative officials, the County Attorney, contractors, developers, engineers, architects, and residents, all in service of protecting the health, safety, welfare, and prosperity of Loudoun County's residents and businesses. The position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus under the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a four year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technologies with coursework related to the assigned area; six (6) years of professional engineering and construction management work experience of a complex nature with direct design as well as administrative experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory or management role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Valid Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) Certification; experience managing in a County or local government; experience working in a unionized environment; experience with construction inspections; and, experience managing government contracts and proficiency working with external vendors.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

This position requires a valid driver's license, driving record, credit, and criminal background checks. Must be able to inspect existing sites and active construction projects and may be exposed to inclement weather while in the field.
