Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Science

Job Description

The PowerPlex Managing Director will serve as the leader to develop and execute the PowerPlex at Missouri S&T. They will advise in planning, coordination, communication, and oversight of all phases of the PowerPlex project. They will also serve as a key interface between the university, engineering and design teams, research contacts, industry partners, contractors, regulatory bodies, etc. and will work closely with the Senior Project Manager in the Design and Construction department to ensure that the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and on budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the project's nuclear technical expert for reactor design and construction.
  • Serve as a key contact for the project and program interfacing with external stakeholders
  • Advise university leadership on regulatory requirements, licensing pathways, and compliance (NRC, DOE).
  • Translate academic and research needs into reactor design criteria and technical requirements.
  • Review design documents to ensure compliance with nuclear safety codes and University program needs.
  • Support project management activities across planning, execution, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Identify nuclear-specific technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain required documentation, quality assurance records, and regulatory filings.
  • Foster a strong nuclear safety culture and support training/qualification of project personnel.
Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 8-10 years of project management experience including significant responsibility on nuclear reactor, nuclear facility, or large-scale EPC nuclear projects. Preferably with some experience in first-of-a-kind or high-technical-risk nuclear projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with NRC regulatory frameworks.
  • Familiarity with nuclear-specific component fabrication, quality assurance requirements (NQA-1), and vendor oversight.
  • Proven ability to manage large, multi-disciplinary teams on long-duration, high-complexity projects.
  • Expertise in project management methodologies.
  • Experience with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories

Anticipated Hiring Range

The base salary range for this position has been established as $81,744-$168,064, with total compensation up to $180,000.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
