Purpose/Objective:
The Business Banker II is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of business banking relationships through business development, proactive portfolio management, and credit administration. This includes conventional C&I, SBA, and Commercial Real Estate Lending as well as growing deposits and cash management fee income. This role is responsible for providing advice and valuable financial solutions to business clients and prospects and serves as the primary advisor by identifying financial needs, delivering customized banking solutions, and ensuring the overall quality, profitability, and compliance of the assigned portfolio.
Success in this role requires a self-driven individual with strong balance of sales performance, relationship management, credit acumen, and portfolio oversight. The Business Banker partners closely with credit underwriting, loan operations, treasury management, and other internal business partners to deliver exceptional client experience while maintaining a profitable and high-quality loan and deposit portfolio.
Key Accountabilities:
Business Development & Sales
* Acquire, deepen, and maintain profitable client relationships through sales, prospecting and enhancing existing relationships for companies with revenues between $0 and $25 million in revenues and up to $5 million of debt. Consistently achieve annual growth and production goals for loans, deposits, treasury management and fee income
* Identify cross-sell opportunities by recommending appropriate products and services
* Build and maintain internal referral partnerships with retail banking, private banking, wealth management, mortgage, treasury, CRE, and C&I teams
* Represent the bank at community, industry, and networking events to enhance market presence and brand recognition
Relationship Management
* Serve as the trusted financial advisor for business clients by understanding their operational and financial goals
* Manage an extensive portfolio of clients and prospects with annual revenues of $0-$25 million and help companies save, borrow, and invest for their current and future needs with relationship exposures up to $5 million
* Conduct quarterly outreach to clients and host annual client meetings to deepen relationships and identify new opportunities
* Deliver high level of responsiveness and exceptional customer experience throughout the client lifecycle
* Collaborate with internal partners to ensure seamless onboarding, loan closing, servicing, and ongoing relationship management
Portfolio Management
* Conduct regular portfolio reviews to monitor risk, and maintain overall portfolio health as appropriate
* Ensure timely collection and analysis of financial statements, tax returns, covenant compliance and other required reporting when appropriate
* Monitor maturing loans, annual reviews, covenant compliance, and past due exceptions to ensure adherence to credit policy
* Proactively identify deteriorating credit trends and recommend and implement appropriate action plans alongside leadership and the credit team
Credit & Underwriting
* Complete financial analysis of prospective and existing client credit opportunities
* Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, debt service coverages, leverage, liquidity, collateral, and trends
* Prepare clear and concise lender submissions for underwriting and credit review
* Structure loan requests that appropriately balance client need and risk management
Education:
* Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred
* Equivalent combination of education and relevant banking experience may be considered.
Experience:
* 3+ years' experience in commercial lending, business development, business banking or related experience
* Proven track record of sales, prospecting new business, and enhancing existing relationships
* Proven experience managing commercial loan portfolio
* Background in commercial credit analysis and loan structuring, formal credit training preferred
* Experience working with underwriting, credit administration, and commercial loan documentation
Skills & Knowledge:
* Commercial credit and financial analysis skills with solid understanding of underwriting principles and commercial loan structuring
* Proven business development and sales abilities with a track record of meeting production and retention goals
* Strong portfolio management and risk mitigation experience
* Excellent relationship building and negotiation skills
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organization and time management
* Ability to prioritize multiple transactions while maintaining attention to detail
* Knowledge of commercial banking products, treasury management services, deposits, and lending solutions
* Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and commercial lending policies
