DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role centers on detecting, controlling, and reducing pests that may affect facilities, personnel, or operations. It involves field inspections, safe pesticide use, and hands-on work with specialized tools and equipment. As a Vector Control Specialist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Pest Inspection: Conduct field inspections to locate breeding areas, nesting sites, and signs of infestation
  • Pesticide Application: Apply pesticides and install traps or equipment to control or eliminate pests
  • Sanitation Review: Inspect disposal sites and drainage systems to help reduce conditions that attract pests
  • Vector Collection: Collect and identify insect and animal vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks, snakes, and raccoons
  • Safe Handling: Maintain secure storage and disposal practices for pesticides and related materials
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain equipment used to manage insects, weeds, and other pests

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a current certificate for Pesticide Applications as issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for, industrial, institutional, structural and public health related pest control; or the ability to obtain this certificate within six months of the date of hire.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a current driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
