THE POSITION

As a Medical Records Technician with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will play an important role in keeping essential medical information organized, accurate, and ready for use at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette. This position supports strong health services by ensuring that inmate records meet high standards for clarity and reliability. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the health care team by maintaining organized, accurate, and secure medical records for inmates. As a Medical Records Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Record Management: Organize, maintain, and monitor integrated health records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with medical documentation standards
  • Record Processing: File, withdraw, and issue medical records, prepare transfers, present records in court cases, and follow all policies on confidentiality and legal requirements
  • Record Review: Review records for completeness, identify documentation issues, and refer incomplete entries to appropriate health care staff
  • Statistical Reporting: Prepare periodic statistical reports on morbidity, mortality, utilization of services, and other record-based data
  • Support Tasks: Assist with related duties assigned to maintain efficient and accurate health record operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • Employees who meet the Necessary Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
