BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Concrete Laborer - Seasonal Department of Transportation DIVISION OF IN-HOUSE CONSTRUCTION Number of Positions: 25 (Additional vacancies pending budget approval) Salary: $ $53.00/hr.
Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59 pm CDT on 8/13/2026 This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with County, Municipal Supervisors and Foremen Local 1001 (Bargaining unit 54). Under immediate supervision, performs physically demanding manual labor relating to the laying and finishing of concrete for the construction, installation and repair of new or existing sidewalks, curbs and gutters, ramps and related construction projects, and performs related duties as required ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Selection Requirements: This is a non-interview title and WILL NOT REQUIRE A TEST. Bidders who APPLY CORRECTLY will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement. Non-Bidders who APPLY CORRECTLY will be hired in lottery/random order. New hires will be sent to the Chicagoland Laborers Training and Apprentice Center for a one-week initial job training course. You must successfully complete the training course to remain employed by the Department of Transportation. APPLICATION EVALUATION: The initial evaluation will be based on information provided in the application and the documents submitted. Department of Human Resources staff will review applications after the final posting date. Staff will follow all required Employment/Hiring Plan provisions, federal, state, and local laws, and, when applicable, Collective Bargaining Agreements. Staff will apply hiring preferences as required by the municipal code. Placement on an eligibility list is not an offer or guarantee of an interview nor employment with the City of Chicago.
