Title: Medical Laboratory Technician (Departmental Assistant) Executive Area: Administration and Finance College/School/MBU: Direct Medical Care Department: Laboratory Work Location: Amherst Schedule:Part Time Work Arrangement:Onsite Job Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician performs all of the laboratory tests in one or more departments of the clinical laboratory, demonstrating ability to perform with a minimum of supervision. Maintains records of procedures, quality control and performance of equipment. Communicates results and related information to physicians and other health professionals. Has appropriate technical background to review results critically. Essential Functions Performs routine and complex procedures in hematology exercising independent judgement, and clinical chemistry procedures. Other Functions Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Baccalaureate degree in a related scientific discipline with a minimum of one year experience in a clinical laboratory or Additional Details Continuing education and training necessary to stay abreast of new developments in diagnostic medicine. Working Conditions Work is performed in a laboratory or healthcare setting and may involve exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases. Requires standing for extended periods of time and/or use of protective gear. Work Schedule and Work Arrangement Hours fluctuate based on department need between 7:00am - 9:00pm, to include weekends and holidays.
