Responsibilities

ECS is recruiting a Regional Geotechnical Principal to act as a technical leader for our Northern Mid-Atlantic Region covering 6 offices across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, Maryland and New York. In this position, you will serve as a primary technical resource for our growing team of engineers and geologists. The professional selected to fill this role will have a strong commitment to develop the engineering practice for growth with an emphasis on technical work execution and business development by engaging as Principal in Charge for projects across the region. This position will offer a diverse variety of geologic settings and project types.

  • Primary responsibilities include:
  • Developing technical skill and proficiency for our team of geotechnical engineers and project managers in MD, WV, NY, NJ, and PA.
  • Providing technical expertise and supporting geotechnical staff both within a branch and within a region.
  • Host or attend project meetings with clients and/or ECS staff to help provide technical solutions.
  • Responsibilities may also include participation in the review committee and mentoring for candidates who seek Associate Principal designation (Geotechnical).
  • Host and participate in virtual meetings as well as visit local offices as needed to facilitate project execution, training, and quality.
  • Perform the following at the office and regional levels:
  • Preparing and reviewing proposals.
  • Overseeing geotechnical project planning and execution.
  • Performing technical report reviews.
  • Provide advice, counsel, and peer review to ensure the technical appropriateness and accuracy of field work, including subcontractor work, and all documents and reports, as required.
  • Business development and assisting other staff in marketing our services by maintaining and developing client interactions.
  • Aid Chief Engineer in training and developing team members by evaluating the skills and capabilities of the region's geotechnical engineering staff.
  • Aid Chief Engineer by assisting with the development of technical proficiency of geotechnical engineering staff, as required.
  • Including participation in developing and delivering training activities for the region's professional staff.
  • Attend regional conferences (including as an exhibitor or presenter) that focus on our industry to include IFCEE, PDCA, DFI, ASCE, ADSC, etc.
  • Participate in local recruiting efforts at Universities and Professional Associations within the region.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or similar is required.
  • Minimum 12 years of related experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Pennsylvania or New Jersey is required.
  • Ability to obtain licensure in Maryland, West Virginia, and Delaware within 6 months of hiring.
  • Detailed understanding of settlement,
  • Proficient understanding in geotechnical design and analysis of shallow foundations, deep foundations (axial and lateral), retaining walls, and slope stability.
  • Skilled with modern geotechnical software for settlement, deep foundation design and analysis, and slope stability.
  • Experience with RocScience software is preferred but not required.
  • Designation as a senior reviewer at your current or previous firm required.
  • If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required.

  • The following US Military ranks will qualify for this position IF they also meet the education, certification, and licenses requirements from the above section titled "Required Qualifications":

The expected pay range for this role and location is $150k - $190k/year. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
