Staff Design Project Manager Job Function

Provides transmission and distribution project management expertise for construction designs and customer connections. Serves as the primary liaison from first customer contact through final project closeout.

Key Responsibilities Project Management
  • Manage multiple transmission and distribution projects of increasing complexity.
  • Oversee projects including:
    • Underground conversion for wildfire mitigation
    • Streetlighting
    • Residential developments
    • Commercial developments
    • Industrial developments
    • System maintenance
    • Capacity additions
    • Major budgeted projects
    • Road widening projects
  • Deliver timely, reliable, cost-effective, and constructible designs that meet customer connection requirements.
Design Production
  • Conduct complex technical analyses.
  • Prepare or oversee complete engineering and construction designs utilizing:
    • Design software
    • Engineering drawings
    • Material lists
    • Design specifications
    • Material specifications
    • Corporate accounting requirements
    • Cost estimates
    • Easements
    • Permits
    • Service requirements
    • Line-extension agreements
  • Make design decisions that ensure a transmission and distribution system that is:
    • Cost-effective
    • Reliable
    • Safe
    • Constructible
    • Maintainable
Project Execution
  • Ensure all project process steps are completed successfully.
  • Balance multiple priorities while meeting project schedules and customer expectations.
  • Coordinate work across internal departments.
  • Interpret project requirements and facilitate execution.
  • Frequently serve as a lead and mentor for project team members.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Company tariffs
    • Design standards
    • National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
    • Applicable federal, state, and local codes
Customer Care
  • Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Consult with customers to identify project requirements.
  • Develop design and service connection solutions that align with:
    • Company standards
    • Tariffs
    • Applicable codes
    • Customer needs
Leadership & Consultation
  • Serve as a departmental subject matter expert.
  • Provide training and mentoring to team members.
  • Assist with escalated technical and project issues.
  • Share expertise to improve department performance and consistency.
Minimum Qualifications Education

Bachelor's degree in one of the following (or equivalent experience):

  • Engineering Technology
  • Computer-Assisted Design (CAD)
  • Related technical field
Experience

Typically 5+ years of experience in:

  • Utility operations
  • Electrical distribution
  • Engineering design
  • Project management
  • Related field
