Job Summary Physician Assistant - Asthma Research and Clinical PracticeThe Physician Assistant will play a highly visible and impactful role in a five-year, PCORI-funded asthma research study evaluating two evidence-based interventions across 4,100 participants. Working in close partnership with the Principal Investigator and multidisciplinary study team, this role brings clinical insight, research coordination, and patient-centered expertise to support study operations, participant safety, and successful protocol implementation across a network of 25 recruitment sites. This is a unique opportunity for a PA who is energized by both research and clinical practice. The position combines research leadership, cross-site collaboration, clinical consultation, and limited direct patient care within the Asthma Clinic. Research and Study Leadership Serve as a clinical liaison to recruitment sites and the study operations committee, offering guidance on clinical treatment protocols, implementation questions, and study-related clinical issues. Contribute as a key member of the exacerbation adjudication team by reviewing electronic medical record data, patient-reported information, and exacerbation reports to confirm primary outcome events. Support the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of study documentation, including consent forms, participant-facing educational materials, and clinical content. Review adverse events across all recruitment sites and help finalize network-wide safety reports. Partner with the study pharmacist to resolve prescription-related issues and participate in monthly prescription committee meetings. Clinical Responsibilities In addition to research responsibilities, the PA will provide direct patient care in the Asthma Clinic one day per week. The PA will also serve as backup to the Director of the Asthma Research Center for asthma-related clinical issues affecting clinic patients, helping ensure continuity of care and timely clinical support Summary: The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions: Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. -Performs complete histories and physical examinations. -Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. -Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. -Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. -Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries. -Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
