What to Expect
Tesla is looking for an innovative Sr. Electrical Engineer to join our Factory Engineering team in Fremont, CA. The electrical teamis responsible forcreating andmaintainingthe factory of the future by overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and operation ofcutting-edge, large-scale equipment and utility systems in support of highly innovative manufacturing processes. What You'll Do
  • Serve as the ultimate system owner for electrical equipment, bridging the gap between front-end engineering design and real-world field operations
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute complex maintenance shutdowns. Develop, review, and execute detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and sequenced switching orders, ensuring minimal impacttocritical manufacturing and facility operations
  • Support and oversee complex Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) activities for low, medium, and high voltage systems, ensuring strict adherence to site safety, NFPA 70E, and OSHA standards
  • Lead andparticipateheavily in start-up and commissioning activities. Act as the primary technical point of contact in the field to troubleshoot real-time issues, address punch-list items, and ensure seamless handovers
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities with key stakeholders and engineering groups
  • Act as the Engineer of Record (EOR) to design, review, and stamp small-scope electrical deliverables (Single Line Diagrams, panel schedules, grounding, and power plans)
  • Evaluate conceptual designs and vendor documents from external EPC firms.Identifyoperational challenges, constructability risks, and maintenance limitations before installation begins
  • Perform, review, andvalidateelectrical engineering studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash analysis) and configure breaker/relay settings
  • Establish test plans and control test plan execution at the vendor and at the Tesla facility during installation and buy-off
  • Troubleshoot field issues across 120V to utility-level systems, performing root cause analysis on equipmentfailures,and implementing corrective actions

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineeringor higher and minimum of 5 years of experience in the industrial/utility sector as a hands-on electrical field engineer or electrical applications engineer working on power system design, construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operation, or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of local and national technical and safety standards and codes (NEC, NETA, NFPA, OSHA), as well as a deep understanding of NFPA 70E and NETA ECSregardingshock and arc flash safety
  • Experience performing electrical engineering studies and configuring breaker settings (EasyPower, SKM, ETAP)
  • Work closely with the procurement team and vendors toidentifyany gaps and ensure the complete delivery and handover ofpurchasedequipment.Initiate and run regular meetings with vendors during equipment procurement and fabrication to ensure correctness and completeness
  • Excellent verbal and written skills along with the ability to effectively communicate at the executive level
  • Capability to work efficiently with engineers and technicians from other disciplines, as well as vendors and contractors
  • Promote and protect Tesla's reputation as acutting-edgecompany producing the world's most exciting cars and shifting the paradigm of personal transportation worldwide
  • Desire to do the impossible with a positive and professional "never say die" attitude
  • Strong desireto be a part of a world-class team focused on achieving amazing results
  • Registered as a CA Professional Engineer (PE), orpossessingan active PE in another state with the ability to obtain CA reciprocity within 6 months

    Expected Compensation
    $109,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
