Tesla Energy's Systems Engineering team is looking for a
hands-on Electrical Engineer to support the commissioning, maintenance, and
troubleshooting of automated test setups across our Charging, Residential, and
Industrial product lines. Embedded within the Test Infrastructure design team,
you'll help keep setups running reliably - maintaining uptime across
networking, controls, power distribution, instrumentation, and automation
hardware. Day to day, you'll work across electrical bring-up, network configuration,
root-cause debugging, RMA coordination, and setup modifications, with
opportunities to build Python tools that improve diagnostics and system
visibility.

What You'll Do

  • Commission
& Bring-Up: Execute electrical bring-up, controls integration, network
configuration, and sensor validation for new and existing test setups
  • Troubleshoot
& Root-Cause: Diagnose electrical, firmware, and network failures
across PLCs, DAQ systems, DC power supplies, chillers/thermal controllers,
    and automation hardware
  • Setup
Uptime & RMA: Monitor setup health, drive uptime across the lab, and
coordinate RMA and component replacement to minimize downtime
  • Modifications
& Retrofits: Implement hardware modifications, upgrades, and
engineering changes into deployed setups as requirements evolve
  • Networking:
Configure and maintain managed switches, VLANs/subnets, static IP maps,
and controller-to-server communication; resolve connectivity issues across
    the test environment
  • Scripting
& Diagnostics: Write and maintain Python scripts for automated
diagnostics, health monitoring, log parsing, and debug
  • Configuration
Control: Maintain consistent firmware versions, IP tables, wiring
standards, and hardware configurations across setups
  • Cross-Functional
Support: Work closely with Test Automation, Controls, Systems Engineering,
and Mechanical teams to resolve integration issues
  • Documentation:
Maintain system configurations, track known issues, and document
    setup-specifics

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in
    Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong
troubleshooting skills across a wide range of voltage systems (3-480 V
AC/DC), analog/digital signals, relay logic, sensors, and grounding
  • Proficiency
in networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, managed switches, VLANs, static IP
assignment) and Linux environments (SSH, service management, network
    configuration)
  • Working
Python skills for scripting, debugging, and interacting with hardware
    APIs/libraries
  • Experience
with PLCs, DAQ systems (NI), and industrial communication protocols
    (Modbus, CAN, etc.)
  • Hands-on
lab experience: cable/wire routing, component swaps, using
    multimeters/scopes for signal validation
  • Ownership
mindset: clean wiring, labeled hardware, consistent processes,
    well-maintained lab spaces
  • Preferred: Experience
in Lab Operations, Test Engineering, or NPI environments
  • Preferred: Familiarity
with SCADA systems or containerized tooling (Docker)
  • Preferred: Exposure
to high-voltage safety and power electronics environments
