The UMKC School of Dentistry is seeking a dependable, technically skilled, and customer-service-oriented professional to join our team as a Full -Time Registered Nurse (RN) in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department.

For more than a century, the School of Dentistry has prepared the next generation of oral health professionals through excellence in education, research, and patient care. Job Description

An oral surgery nurse is primarily responsible for assisting the doctor in caring for and
monitoring patients before, during and after surgeries. The nurse will also work cooperatively with the entire clinical team throughout all stages of the patient's experience from consultation through surgery and post-operative care, as needed. The nurse will also be responsible for complying with and overseeing OSHA standards and HIPPA regulations for the clinic. The nurse will also be expected to provide high quality patient care, have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated, dependable, able to multi-task, detail oriented, and work well with others as part of the patient care team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing medical histories with patients and primary care physician or
    specialists
  • Assessing the pre-operative patient
  • Starting IV lines
  • Administering and tracking medication
  • Assisting with IV anesthesia during surgery
  • Accurate documentation of patient medical records
  • Assisting doctor in surgery, as needed
  • Supervise patients emerging from anesthesia, manage airway and pain
  • Caring for patient recovery and discharge duties
  • Phone triage
  • Scheduling OR surgeries at local hospital or surgery center, as needed
  • Ordering clinical supplies and pharmaceuticals
  • Maintaining emergency cart and equipment
  • Serve as the lead for the Emergency Response Team
  • Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved nursing program and licensure (or eligibility to be licensed) as an RN within the state of Missouri.
Preferred Qualifications

  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • Clinic Management Software
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Proficient in communications technology (email, Teams, etc.)
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as up to $40.00 an hour

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
