Get to Know Your Team:

  • Lovelace Women's Hospital is a 53-bed advanced neonatal intensive care unit, family care unit, an award-winning breast care center and the first robotic surgery program in the state recognized as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation.

Responsibilities

  • Registered Nurses practicing as first assistants in surgery are functioning in an expanded perioperative nursing role.
  • First assisting activities are further executed within the context of the nursing process and in accordance with the State Board of Nursing Practice and institutional policies.
  • RNFA activities commonly include: assisting the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intra-operative technical functions under the supervision of a surgeon.
  • Other activities may include certain delegated medical functions that can be assumed by the RN who is qualified to practice as an RNFA.
  • A RN license is required as well as RNFA Certification through the AORN Training/Certification Program

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in nursing or Diploma of Nursing and RNFA Certification through AORN.
  • Valid NM Nursing license.
  • Successful completion of an RNFA program through AORN with Certification.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
  • 3 years of RN experience and 2 years of RNFA experience. The 2 years of RNFA experience may be part of the 3 years of RN experience.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Technical training as a Scrub Nurse or Scrub Technician.
