Position Summary

We are seeking a Materials & Process Engineer skilled in elastomer formulation development and process optimization. This role delivers robust materials solutions to advance capabilities in aerospace and industrial applications. On-the-job training/mentorship will be provided as well as opportunities for continuous learning.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Optimize elastomer properties including fatigue, thermal/chemical resistance, and processability

  • Evaluate new raw materials (polymers, fillers, curatives, anti-degradants, etc.) for novel performance and qualify additional sources of existing materials to reduce supply chain risk

  • Write reports documenting experimental procedures and material characterization results

  • Work closely with technicians to achieve efficient laboratory operations (elastomer mixing, processing, bonding, testing, etc.)

  • Observe all safety rules, consistently practice safe working habits, and provide safety guidance to others

  • Work in cross-functional teams to identify and implement viable solutions to technical issues

  • Obtain information from stakeholders to establish appropriate prioritization for each project

  • Maintain accurate and complete records (data/notes, photographs, reports, etc.) for all testing/development

  • Analyze data, screen for anomalies, and take appropriate corrective action as needed

  • Apply statistical analysis to determine similarities/differences in complex data

  • Work with Material & Process Engineering team to support ongoing projects

  • Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain standard and custom equipment

  • Continuously improve operational safety, quality, and efficiency

  • Communicate test results and status clearly and punctually

  • Understand and minimize sources of test variation

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in material, polymer, or chemical discipline

  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience

  • Working knowledge of elastomer formulation techniques for optimizing/improving properties

  • Demonstrated ability to generate and follow written instructions such as design of experiments, test plans, product/tooling drawings, work instructions, operating procedures, specifications, etc.

  • Willingness to learn/use diverse lab equipment including rubber mills, presses, and hydraulic test machines
