Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are currently seeking a Development and Communication Assistant to join our PR Department.



Position Summary:

The Development and Communications Assistant plays a key role in advancing the fundraising, donor engagement, community outreach, and communications efforts of the Children's Home of Poughkeepsie. This position provides high-level administrative and project support to the Development Office, helping to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the department.

This role is ideal for a highly organized, tech-savvy individual who is passionate about storytelling, nonprofit development, and making a difference in the community. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. A professional and friendly demeanor is essential, along with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or meetings.



Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide administrative support to the Development Office in areas including donor relations, fundraising, communications, and outreach.
  2. Coordinate and support outreach and fundraising events from planning to execution, including logistics, vendor coordination, promotion, and on-site support.
  3. Assist with maintaining and updating donor database, including gift entry, donor acknowledgment letters, and report generation.
  4. Assist with development-related mailings such as annual campaigns, event invitations, and general outreach.
  5. Help coordinate the receipt, organization, and distribution of in-kind donations.
  6. Assist with the content and production of print and digital communications, including newsletters, donor updates, promotional materials, and press releases.
  7. Create and share engaging content for web and social media platforms using Canva or similar tools.



Schedule: Monday - Friday normal business hours.

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:



  • Associate's Degree; Bachelors preferred.
  • Practical experience with databases, email marketing tools and social media
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Docs Editor Suite



PREFERRED Qualifications:



  • Experience in development, public relations or related fields such as marketing, sales and/or business development
  • Familiarity with design software, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, Canva
  • Familiarity with WordPress



Physical Demands and Work Environment:



  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time
  • Able to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Able to safely operate an agency vehicle in accordance with NYS motor vehicle law
