What You'll Do

As a Lab Tech, you will manage and be responsible for the safe analytical testing of explosive products and support the Graham, KY Plant according to Dyno Nobel Americas and plant policies and procedures. Other duties include:

  • Demonstrate and/or lead the commitment to the pursuit of achieving Zero Harm through behavioral based safety
  • Ensure compliance with applicable HSE performance standards, objectives and regulations
  • Provide ISO 9001 support for all plant operations
  • Understand shipping requirements for hazardous materials, i.e. shipment of samples
  • Report abnormal test results to the appropriate management personnel (e.g., Process Managers or Quality Engineer)
  • Provide assistance when needed for the plant in any ISO, Quality or administrative needs
  • Performs PETN validation testing daily.
  • Performs final testing for all product lines produced at the PETN plant. Granulation, Acidity, Melt Point, Bulk Density, Moisture,
  • Performs testing of chemical composition of raw materials - PE
  • Performs concentration level testing of dissolved substances - Titrations
  • Perform bulk product testing - Wax content, Graphite content, weight loss, vacuum stability, purity, melt point, flow, bulk density, Waxing graphite
  • Final product testing for military specifications: Vacuum stability, CHN content
  • HMX RDX content in water testing for lagoon - PPM concentration testing
  • Determine, proof and create new testing procedures for all chemical operations
  • Explore and determine new technology to define faster more accurate ways of testing energetic material
  • Confer with R&D and engineers to conduct analyses of research projects, interpret test results, or develop nonstandard tests

What You'll Do:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field desired
  • Experience working in a team-orientated, collaborative environment
  • 2+ years laboratory experience desired
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and strong computer skills
  • Strong computer application skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment including High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatograph (GC), Infra-Red Spectrophotometer (IR), Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AA), and UV-Vis spectrophotometer
  • Must be willing to undergo and pass an ATF background check as required to be a possessor of explosives.
  • Positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a team player
