Performs work of significant difficulty in providing special medical and surgical care to Boys Town National Research Hospital patients and referral patients. Provides direct medical and surgical care and participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary clinic teams.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Assists in the design, development and implementation of such diagnostic, rehabilitative, counseling, teaching, and research programs/projects in the area of Otolaryngology and Maxillo-facial Surgery as are consonant with the general goals and objectives of the Institute.
  • Provides medical and surgical services related to communicative disorders to pediatric and adolescent patients accepted for care in the Hospital programs.
  • Provides certain Otolaryngological and Maxillo-facial Surgery Services to referral patients in order to maintain professional competence.
  • Participates in the development of program/project objectives, sub- objectives, and staffing needs for the Hospital's medical program as may be required for sound management decision making.
  • Participates in such professional education programs in Otolaryngology and Maxillo-facial Surgery at the Hospital as may be developed in cooperation with associated universities.
  • Participates in the selection, acquisition, installation, and maintenance of such specialized instruments and equipment as may be necessary for the orderly implementation of the Hospital's service/research programs in Otolaryngology and Maxillo-facial Surgery.
  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary evaluation and remediation team, which may include professionals from non-medical fields.
  • Participates in various medical and hospital committees at the Hospital and associated institutions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate willingness to serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, involving non-physicians, dealing with communicatively disabled children.
  • Apply research expertise as demonstrated by records or sustained work published in medical journals.
  • Communicate concisely both orally and in writing with patients, families, and staff and collaborate with other members of the health care team to enhance care.
  • Make assessments and problem solve.
  • Keep complete records of all events and results of encounters to patients.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctor of Medicine Degree from an accredited medical school, must be certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and possess or be able to attain medical licensure in the State of Nebraska required.
  • Have or able to qualify for clinical hospital privileges required.
  • Post-residency experience in an academic setting and prior experience in a medical setting dealing with communicatively handicapped children is desired required.
  • Other Duties: This job description incorporates the essential functions and duties required for this position. However, other duties may be required and assigned at times and as determined by a supervisor in order to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
