Overview

The Operating Supervisor of the Emergency Response Force (ERF) is tasked with protecting life and property by following established work procedures and standards, ensuring compliance, promoting safety, and driving ongoing improvements.

The ideal candidate should have experience with gas distribution systems, including handling emergencies, scheduled work, and compliance programs. This position requires independent operation, strong judgment, and decision-makingespecially in urgent situations. Candidates must be self-motivated, safety-focused, and demonstrate strong leadership.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide managerial oversight of field personnel responding to gas emergenciesincluding odor calls, leaks, and damage assessmentsexercise Incident Commander authority during emergency and thirdparty damage events and supervise overnight field operations as necessary.
  • Demonstrate leadership and provide clear direction to field personnel by maintaining a consistent presence in the field, ensuring alignment with established emergency response procedures, operational goals and safety objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and company programs (e.g., leak sheet reviews; leak surveillance, repairs, follow-ups, etc.).
  • Through customer follow-up, after normal business hours, help schedule appointments for regulatory programs (e.g., Periodic Meter Change (PMC), Service Line Inspection (SLI), Corrosion, etc.).
  • Provide quality assurance support for the Natural Gas Detector (NGD) program.
  • Using the companys work management system, create work packages for various work activities.
  • Visit locations on the Unsafe Locations Dashboard and clear physical locations, as applicable.
  • Conduct warehouse material inventory across all three operating divisions.
  • Monitor training requirements to mitigate overdue and non-compliance.
  • Foster and uphold a safety-first, zero harm culture by demonstrating safety leadership and promoting Company safety programs and resources while prioritizing customer experience and protecting company reputation.
  • Ensure compliance with and enforcement of the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system; or 5 years full time experience in a related field. or
  • Associate's Degree and 4+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience. or
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Experience in responding to gas emergencies, required.
  • Ability to obtain Operator Qualifications within six months, required.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with the gas distribution system, required.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts and/or off-hour response, required.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and communications (written and verbal) skills. required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft 365, required.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and integrity, required.
  • Learn new technologies, and identify opportunities for improving safety, compliance, and processes, required.
  • Experience with work management systems (i.e., WMS/Maximo), preferred.
  • Experience with the Incident Command System (ICS) and the role of the Incident Commander, preferred.
  • Experience supervising field operations personnel, preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of gas operations supervisory experience, preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
  • Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
  • This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by the Department of Transportation.
  • Must be able to keep company vehicle at home residence.
  • Ability to read small print and symbols.
  • Ability to drive to locations within the company's service territory.
