Job Summary

The Security Technician II is responsible for the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of commercial security systems including access control, CCTV, and low voltage infrastructure. This role is heavily field focused within active construction environments, performing hands on work such as cable installation, device termination, system programming, and final system verification. The technician ensures all systems are installed cleanly, safely, and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

Schedule / Hours Expectation



  • Typically 7am start
  • 40 to 50 hour workweek


Project Environment



  • Local branch work across large scale commercial environments
  • Corporate, retail, healthcare, hospital, government, municipality, industrial, place of worship


Primary Functions of the Role



  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot access control systems, CCTV systems, and low voltage infrastructure
  • Pull, terminate, dress, and label cabling including 22/4, 20/4, CAT5e, CAT6
  • Install and support cameras, maglocks, strikes, card readers, panels, and NVRs
  • Build and organize security equipment racks with proper cable management
  • Install cable pathways including J hooks and D rings
  • Read and interpret blueprints to execute installations to specification
  • Configure access control systems including credentials, door schedules, and access levels
  • Configure CCTV systems including camera setup, recording schedules, and client software
  • Perform IP based troubleshooting including addressing and connectivity issues
  • Test and verify system functionality to ensure devices are fully operational
  • Follow OSHA safety standards and maintain clean and organized job sites


Day to Day Responsibilities



  • Install and troubleshoot access control devices, cameras, and low voltage cabling on active job sites
  • Move between cable pulling, termination, device mounting, and system configuration
  • Work on ladders, lifts, and inside IT rooms to complete installations
  • Coordinate with site leadership while ensuring all work meets project and safety standards
  • Verify system performance and bring systems online cleanly and reliably


Required Experience



  • Commercial security installation, 3+ years installing access control systems, CCTV, and related hardware
  • Access control configuration, adding credentials, configuring door schedules, troubleshooting door issues
  • CCTV system setup, installing and configuring IP and analog cameras, NVRs, and client software
  • IP networking fundamentals including IP addressing, switches, routers, and port forwarding
  • Low voltage cabling experience including pulling, routing, terminating, and labeling cable
  • Blueprint interpretation for device layout and cable path planning
  • Rack build experience including equipment layout and cable organization
  • Construction site safety knowledge including OSHA and PPE compliance
  • Field troubleshooting across access control, CCTV, and networked systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic system software

  • Access control platforms: Lenel, Software House, AMAG, Brivo, Openpath
  • CCTV systems: Axis, Hanwha, Avigilon, Bosch, Pelco
  • Intrusion systems: DSC, Client Ademco, Bosch
  • CATV and CCTV distribution: Extron, Kramer, Atlona
  • Door hardware integration: Allegion, ASSA ABLOY, HID
  • Low voltage tools: cable testers, certifiers, toners, multimeters, punch down tools
  • Network equipment: switches, PoE devices, IP configuration
  • Software tools: Microsoft Office, manufacturer configuration tools such as Lenel OnGuard and Axis Camera Manager


Requirements



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of commercial security installation experience
  • 3+ years of access control installation experience
  • 1+ year of IP networking and troubleshooting experience
  • OSHA 10 preferred
  • Scissor lift or boom lift certification preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, confined spaces, and remain on feet for full shifts


Tools and PPE



  • Basic hand tools including screwdriver, tape measure, snips, pliers, punch down tool, flashlight
  • Work boots, gloves, and tool pouch
  • Additional low voltage testing and termination tools as needed
