Who is Saint Louis University? Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. The Associate Dean of Admissions will be a senior faculty member with an exemplary reputation as an academic leader in medical education and medical education administration. This position will report to the Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education and be a member of the medical school leadership team. The Associate Dean role encompasses both oversight and hands-on involvement in the operations of the admissions and recruitment processes within the Office of Admissions, ensuring all initiatives are aligned with the School of Medicine's mission, vision and strategic objectives. The position offers the opportunity to guide the recruitment and selection of the future leaders in medicine from SLU SOM. The Associate Dean will also provide leadership in educational innovation and promote medical education scholarship.

It is expected that the selected candidate will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks by his/her scholarly activities, teaching, university, and public service.

The time requirements for this position are estimated at 0.6 FTE.

Minimum qualifications include the completion of an MD degree. The individual should have board certification in their appropriate medical specialty along with good standing with state and local licensing and credentialing boards. All candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in undergraduate medical education (UME). Rank of Associate Professor and Professor (tenure or non-tenure track), along with previous UME leadership experience are preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, organization, public speaking, analytical, and computer skills

  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards regarding confidentiality of all student and applicant information

  • Excellent time management skills. Ability to work independently, meet strict deadlines and be detail-oriented, with an ability to plan and manage multiple projects concurrently in a timely manner

  • Ability to remain free of outside influence in the selection process of future School of Medicine students

Job Duties:

  • Serve as a senior advisor to the Senior Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and as a member of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine (SLU SOM) leadership team.

  • Provide oversight of all activities involved with the recruitment, screening, and selection of SLU SOM MD program applicants.

  • Represent SLU SOM on a national basis and oversee any off-campus events sponsored by SLU SOM MD Admissions for the purposes of marketing and recruitment. Serve as a spokesperson for SLU SOM MD program to premedical advisors, educational institutions, and the broader academic community.

  • Champion a welcoming applicant experience, ensuring all candidates encounter respect and transparency throughout the admissions process, along with timely, accurate, and effective communication.

  • May involve travel and planning for various marketing and recruiting events.

  • Evaluate and assess the admissions program on an annual basis by collecting, analyzing, and reporting admissions and matriculation data to support decision-making, institutional reporting, and continuous improvement.

  • Manage and supervise admissions personnel for all day-to-day functions

  • Direct all components of the admissions cycle, including application review, interview coordination, candidate evaluation, and matriculation processes.

  • Provide leadership, supervision, mentorship, and oversight of the recruitment and retention of all screeners, interviewers, and committee members, including faculty and students.

  • Chair the Executive Admissions Committee (EAC)

  • Chair the Assessment Subcommittee to the EAC

  • Participate in the Pathways and Steering Subcommittees to the EAC

  • Ensure full compliance with internal policies, and all accreditation-related, regulatory, and legal standards.

  • Oversee the budget and finances of the Office of Admissions

  • Attend appropriate non-admissions UME-related committee meetings as Ex-Officio

  • Collaborate with other members of the UME offices to provide an effective transition from the admissions process to medical school. Collaborate with students and student leaders on admissions matters.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that are aligned with accreditation standards, guidelines, and educational outcomes in collaboration with Assistant Deans/Associate Deans and faculty.

  • Serve as a liaison between applicants, Financial Services, and multiple scholarship committees to streamline scholarship and financial aid information.

  • Use appropriate technology in all functions. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean of UME.
