Job Description

Position Summary
The Electrical Engineer provides professional engineering expertise to support the safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation of building electrical systems across a large higher-education campus. Reporting within the Engineering Services group of Facilities Operations, this position serves as a key technical resource for maintenance staff, capital project teams, and campus stakeholders. The role focuses on building-level electrical systems, lifecycle planning, electrical safety programs, campus design standards, and design oversight to support academic, research, residential, and recreational facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Technical Oversight
* Provide engineering support and technical leadership for low-voltage building electrical systems (<600V), including power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, and associated controls.
* Serve as an engineering resource to facilities maintenance staff, supporting troubleshooting, corrective actions, and evaluation of complex electrical system issues.
* Apply applicable electrical codes, regulations, and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE).

Campus Design Standards & Design Review
* Collaborate to develop, refine, and maintain campus electrical design standards.
* Review consultant designs for compliance with campus standards and codes.
* Identify design impacts on safety, reliability, and maintainability.

Electrical Safety & Risk Management
* Support the campus electrical safety program, including LOTO and arc flash management.
* Maintain arc flash studies, labels, SKM models, and documentation.
* Provide guidance on electrical hazard mitigation and safe work practices.

Capital Planning & Asset Renewal
* Evaluate building electrical systems for capital repair and renewal needs.
* Develop scopes and recommendations to support capital planning.

Capital Projects Support & Construction Oversight
* Assist with electrical scope development and design review.
* Review submittals and shop drawings.
* Coordinate with consultants and contractors during construction and commissioning.

In-House Engineering Support
* Prepare limited, code-compliant designs to support timely repairs.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication
* Collaborate with Facilities Operations, Planning, research, housing, and academic units.
* Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Shift

7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure or certification may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience supporting facilities or maintenance organizations.
* Experience with SKM PowerTools or similar modeling software.
* Experience with design standards, submittal review, and commissioning.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 annually

Grade: GGS-013
