Overview
The AI Solutions Analyst supports the US Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (DOE OSTI) by working across teams including applications development, information science, preservation, cybersecurity, and administration to analyze workflows and identify opportunities where artificial intelligence or automation can improve efficiency, quality, and mission outcomes. The role focuses on process analysis, requirements definition, and coordination to support responsible and well governed adoption of AI enabled capabilities. This is not an AI development role and does not require building or training AI models. This is an onsite position, in Oak Ridge, TN with no remote option.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Collaborate with primary OSTI teams including applications development, information science, preservation, records management, cybersecurity, and administration to identify areas where artificial intelligence, automation, or advanced tooling could assist or enhance existing processes.
- Analyze business, technical, and information management processes to identify inefficiencies, risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify, assess, and document opportunities where artificial intelligence, automation, or advanced tooling could improve efficiency, quality, scalability, discoverability, or decisionmaking.
- Research, evaluate, and compare AI/ML tools, platforms, and vendor solutions - including cost, licensing, integration complexity, and compliance posture to support informed build-vs-buy decisions.
- Facilitate discovery sessions and stakeholder interviews to understand current state workflows, data inputs, decision points, and desired outcomes.
- Collaborate with applications development teams to translate mission and business needs into clear, well defined requirements, user stories, and success criteria.
- Support planning and execution of AI enabled initiatives, including proof of concepts, pilots, and incremental enhancements.
- Coordinate with metadata curation, records management, and preservation teams to assess AI impacts on data quality, provenance, retention, and long term accessibility.
- Partner with cybersecurity and compliance stakeholders to ensure AI use aligns with security, privacy, records, and governance requirements.
- Document workflows, system interactions, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and human in the loop controls associated with AI supported processes.
- Translate technical and AI related concepts into clear, audience appropriate documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Develop written proposals and briefings for AI-enabled solutions, including recommended approaches, implementation sequencing, resource requirements, and risk considerations, for review by technical and leadership stakeholders.
- Support post implementation reviews by evaluating outcomes, capturing lessons learned, and recommending refinements or future enhancements.
- Support AI literacy efforts and stakeholder communication to build organizational readiness for AI-enabled change.
- Perform related duties as assigned in support of OSTI mission objectives.
Qualifications
Education, Training, Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred in a relevant analytical, technical, or business focused discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in business analysis, process improvement, systems analysis, operations analysis, program support, or a related analytical role.
- Experience working with cross functional teams, including applications or software development, data or information management, cybersecurity, operations, or administrative organizations.
- Proven ability to analyze workflows and processes, identify improvement opportunities, and document requirements, recommendations, or findings.
- Working familiarity with automation or artificial intelligence concepts sufficient to evaluate potential use cases, impacts, and limitations. Direct AI model development experience is not required.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non technical stakeholders and produce well organized documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in complex, mission driven, or evolving environments and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience supporting federal, research, data intensive, or regulated environments is preferred but not required.
