This position requires a motivated, organized person that can communicate and coordinate well with others and has an interest in learning mucosal immunology, tumor immunology, and cutting-edge systems biology approaches. The applicant will need previous academic laboratory experience, but training on specific assays and equipment will be provided. The applicant will need to be comfortable with research on experimental mice. The employee will split time ~25/75 between lab management and experimental assistance. Assistance with experiments will be coordinated and in collaboration with the principal investigators and/or experienced lab members, with opportunities to develop the applicant's own individual project.

Yes

Assist with ongoing projects in collaboration with and coordination by experienced lab members in cellular and molecular immunological analyses of genetically engineered mice. Cell preparatory techniques, tissue culture, flow cytometry, RNA preparation, CRISPR based genetic engineering, computational bioinformatic assays, and a variety of molecular assays will be utilized.

Yes The incumbent will assist with general operational functions for the laboratory, including maintenance of lab stocks and supplies, and equipment maintenance. The incumbent will be trained as needed to help with other general lab duties.

  • SRA I: BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SRA II: In addition to the above, one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Basic related scientific techniques and procedures as learned from academic laboratory experience.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA and/or RNA extraction, PCR, and quantitative PCR (qPCR)
  • Experience working with mouse models
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot irregularities or invalid experimental results
  • Experience evaluating laboratory procedures and recommending improvements or alternative approaches
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and resource issues and coordinate necessary repairs
  • Experience managing laboratory inventory and sourcing alternative supplies when items are backordered or discontinued
  • Experience executing laboratory research projects in collaboration with senior lab members
  • Ability to collaborate with postdoctoral fellows and senior lab members to investigate complex experimental issues
  • Experience implementing new laboratory techniques based on literature review and consultation with senior team members
