Job Requirements (Principal Responsibilities)
  • Provides day to day work guidance to a group of chemical operators. May allocate work, resources and schedules; rearranges priorities and coordinates activities of others.

  • Sets up and operates chemical processing and related equipment following work instructions (WI), distributed control system (DCS) and Product Quality Control Plans (PQCP). Interprets floor generated log sheet data, analytical data (SPC) charts to assist in maintaining process control.

  • Maintains updated operating procedures, records, and/or production and inventory activity reports.

  • May participate in development of execution plans pertaining to process changes, updates, or deployment of capital projects. Interfaces with engineers and other technical personnel to identify and relate production yields, quality and equipment issues.

  • Identifies and executes process improvements and ensures training of all operators on shift team.

  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines. Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.

  • May assist Production Supervisor or Production Manager in special projects.

  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001 technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

  • Performs all daily duties of the Supervisor when the Supervisor is not on shift, including: setting the staffing plan for the day, leading changeover meetings, tracking performance of manufacturing lines, coordinating maintenance priorities, and reporting progress at the end of the shift

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors)
  • Solid knowledge of chemical manufacturing equipment, process and operations.

  • Ability to provide clear instructions and guidance to others.

  • Familiarity with computers and related applications.

  • High level of safety awareness and attention to details.

  • Written, verbal communications and active listening skills.

  • Organization and record keeping skills

  • Flexibility in performing changing assignments and work schedules

  • Ability to lift heavy containers and use material handling equipment

  • Aspirations to train for and become a Supervisor is preferred

Education/Experience
  • High School or equivalent. Additional trade education or certification preferred.

  • 5-7 years of chemical manufacturing experience.
