Our team works across the R&D organization to design and execute experiments that generate feasibility data for new strain designs and production processes. The Role & Your Impact

As a part time Lab Assistant I, you will play a key operational role in supporting fermentation experiments through consistent, high-quality laboratory work. This is a fully hands-on position focused on executing essential lab tasks that enable our scientists to move projects forward efficiently and safely. Your contribution ensures reliable data generation and smooth day-to-day lab operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing media and setting up fermentation tanks
  • Performing instrument calibrations and autoclaving activities
  • Sampling, harvesting tanks, and supporting experimental workflows
  • Maintaining and cleaning laboratory equipment and workspaces
  • Supporting routine lab operations and assisting team members as needed

What You'll Need to Be Successful

To perform well and safely in this role, you bring:

  • A High School diploma with a minimum of 2 years of related experience or an associate degree in a related field (biological sciences, chemistry)
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory work, including practical microbiological and/or bioprocessing tasks
  • Experience using aseptic techniques in a lab environment
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent safety mindset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliability, motivation, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team
  • Basic proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Willingness to perform routine, hands-on operational work, some of which is physically demanding

Additional Skills & Interests We Value

While not required, it's a plus if you:

  • Have prior experience in fermentation, microbiology, or bioprocessing labs
  • Enjoy structured, routine work and take pride in high-quality execution
  • Are eager to learn and grow within a scientific R&D environment

Ways of Working / Working Conditions

  • Work schedule: Friday-Sunday, approximately 20 hours per week

  • Laboratory environment with standard lab equipment and procedures

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected hourly rate: $25/hour
  • Additional benefits are provided in line with local policies and regulations
