The Position

The Port of Portland is hiring a

PRINCIPAL ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS ENGINEER*

This role serves as the Port's senior technical authority for enterprise applications and integration, guiding platform strategy, ensuring secure and cohesive system behavior, and maintaining data reliability across the enterprise environment.

Join us as the Principal Enterprise Applications Engineer and help shape the technical backbone of Port Forward - our multi-year modernization effort transforming how the Port operates. In this role, you'll serve as the Port's senior technical authority for enterprise applications, driving platform strategy, integration architecture, and data reliability across mission-critical systems. You'll influence teams across the organization, elevate system cohesion, and bring scalable, modern solutions to life. *This is a Limited Duration role lasting approximately 24 - 36 months to assist the Port of Portland with an ERP implementation. The role may be lengthened or shortened based on business need.


Essential Job Duties

Enterprise Platform Technical Leadership

  • Provide enterprise-wide technical leadership for core business platforms, establishing and enforcing standards for configuration, environment management, and platform consistency.
  • Ensure cohesive operation across systems and direct the technical approach of senior administrators and integration specialists without formal supervisory authority.
  • Drive continuous improvement in platform performance, reliability, maintainability, and overall architectural maturity.
  • Identify emerging technologies and recommend strategic enhancements aligned with enterprise needs.

Integration Strategy & Execution

  • Own and govern the enterprise integration strategy, defining and standardizing integration patterns including APIs, event-based flows, batch processes, and middleware.
  • Partner with iPaaS resources to design scalable, reusable, and secure integrations.
  • Oversee cross-system data flows, dependencies, quality controls, and error-handling requirements to support reliable and resilient integrations.

Data Integrity & Analytics Enablement

  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data across integrated enterprise platforms.
  • Establish standards for data movement, transformation, synchronization, and reconciliation.
  • Identify and resolve cross-system data discrepancies.
  • Partner with BI and analytics teams to ensure enterprise platforms effectively support reporting, data consumption, and downstream analytics environments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six (6) + years of progressive experience in enterprise systems administration, engineering, or integration roles
  • Bachelor's Degree - Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related Field, or a combination of related education and demonstrated experience
  • Master's Degree - preferred, not required.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history records check to allow entry to secure airport areas (Grey Badge).
  • Clear credit check (due to access to sensitive financial information).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Enterprise application architecture and system design principles
  • Integration technologies including APIs, middleware, iPaaS platforms (e.g., Boomi), and event-driven architecture
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM), Single Sign-On (SSO), and security best practices
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies and release management practices
  • Data integration patterns, data quality controls, and reconciliation strategies across systems
  • Enterprise reporting and analytics ecosystems (e.g., data platforms, BI tools)
  • Disaster recovery, business continuity, and high-availability system design

Supplemental and Selection Information

Selection Process: (tentative schedule):

  • A minimum qualification evaluation of the education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources until this role closes on 5/15/2026.
  • A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials.
  • Our goal is to notify candidates who are selected for interviews by 5/20/2026. We will then schedule the virtual first round of interviews with candidates who successfully passed the SME evaluation. Panel Interviews will be held afterward.
