Position: Phlebotomist II
Work Details

  • Location: 1551 Westbrook Plaza, Suite 200, Winston-Salem, NC 27103

    (Novant Health Rheumatology IOP)
  • Duration: 3-Month
  • Schedule:

    • Monday - Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    • Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Total: 36 hours/week


  • Work Arrangement: Onsite


Position Summary

The Phlebotomist II will support daily clinical operations by performing blood collection, specimen processing, troubleshooting, and contributing to workflow improvements in a rheumatology outpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection (blood, urine, etc.)
  • Label, centrifuge, process, split, and store specimens accurately
  • Maintain patient records and update information as needed
  • Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients
  • Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles
  • Verify physician orders and match requisitions to specimens
  • Ensure 100% accuracy in labeling and documentation
  • Package and prepare specimens for transport
  • Maintain specimen integrity per protocol and temperature requirements
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Participate in annual trainings
  • Handle calls and respond to lab-related inquiries
  • Process and release lab orders from Epic into Labcorp Touch system
  • Work in a fast-paced IOP environment


Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification (as required by state)
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab/hospital
  • 2-4 years of overall experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and perform difficult draws ("hard sticks")
  • Flexible and detail-oriented


Working Conditions

  • Majority of shift spent standing (with lunch break)
  • Medium-sized rheumatology IOP with multiple offices
  • 2-person site; may require working in close/shared spaces
  • Initial 2 weeks of orientation/training at:

    2530 Empire Drive, Winston-Salem, NC


Additional Information

  • Full-time: 36 hours/week
  • Daily patient volume: 60-65 (all age groups)
  • Fast-paced environment, especially during morning and evening hours


Vaccination Requirements:



  • MMR, T-DAP, Varicella, TB
  • Hepatitis B (declinable)
  • Flu vaccine required (effective October 2026)
  • Color vision required


Other Requirements:



  • Novant credentialing required
  • Strong customer service skills and flexibility essential
  • Experience with hard sticks is highly preferred
