Senior Director,Facilities & Engineering - JLL

What this job involves - The Senior Director,Facilities & Engineering is the single point of contact for a South San Francisco, CA life sciences client campus, acting as a pivotal service provider liaison and ensuring the comprehensive delivery of Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) and workplace services.

This role is critical in driving technical and operational excellence across the portfolio, ensuring safe, code-compliant, functional, comfortable, energy-efficient, and attractive facilities and site infrastructure.The successful candidate will lead a high-performing team to exceed all MSA KPIs and KSLs, achieve contractual budget goals, and foster a trusted advisor status with the client through continuous improvement and transformative solutions.This role reports directly to the Account Executive and partners closely with the client's Facilities and Engineering teams.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop diverse facilities team across South San Francisco campus, fostering safety-first culture, establishing SMART goals, managing performance reviews, and building succession plans.
  • Oversee comprehensive Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) services including critical systems, GMP compliance, and reliability maintenance programs to eliminate equipment downtime.
  • Manage complex utility operations including high-pressure steam plants, boilers, chillers, compressed air systems, high voltage electrical systems, and distribution networks.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, track savings initiatives, provide monthly variance analysis, and ensure competitive bidding and financial process compliance.
  • Establish robust GMP compliance culture ensuring adherence to all EHS, safety, regulatory, and quality standards while maintaining "audit ready" status at all times.
  • Serve as primary Client Relationship Manager, building strategic partnerships with stakeholders and acting as trusted advisor on facility operations and reliability best practices.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action programs, analyzing failures and incidents to implement process improvements and preventive measures.
  • Conduct engineering assessments to identify risks, failure modes, and operational efficiency opportunities while collaborating with client teams on improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee GAP maintenance and facility projects, delivering cost-competitive, high-volume project execution while meeting client specifications and timelines.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by implementing innovative solutions, leveraging JLL tools and technologies, consolidating vendors, standardizing processes, and expanding service scope.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Business and/or Engineering degree preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in project, maintenance, and operations within GMP/GXP/regulated spaces and processes.

  • Highly attuned people management skills, with proven ability to oversee all areas of operations and maintenance, and collaborate closely with senior site client, engineering, and client capital project managers.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, methodologies, and tools including, but not limited to, safety, reliability, root cause analysis, agile, lean, Six Sigma, and sustainability.

  • Extensive experience managing the operation and maintenance of complex utility systems.

  • Exceptional client relationship management experience, with a track record of building trusted advisor status.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proven track record of identifying and addressing critical operational and reliability issues.

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.

  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.

  • Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan aligned with firm and client goals.

  • Exceptional supplier partner management experience.

  • Strong project management skills, including overseeing various maintenance and small-dollar projects.

  • Knowledge of Energy Reduction and Sustainability Programs.

  • Experience in driving OSHA compliant safety programs and maintaining environmental compliance related to facility operations (Air, Water, Waste Management).

  • Experience in supporting compliant Environmental, Health, and Safety training programs related to facility management operations.

  • Knowledge of standard business and accounting practices, with strong Excel skills and ability to analyze data.

Location: South San Francisco, CA

Estimated compensation for this position:

190,000.00 - 250,000.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
