Position: Asphalt Roller Operator
Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour (Depending on experience and job classification)


Job Description:
Francis O Day Co., Inc., a leading paving and excavation company that operates in Maryland and Virginia, is seeking experienced Asphalt Roller Operators to join our team.

The Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Breakdown Rollers and Finish Rollers. The Asphalt Roller Operator distributes, breaks down, compresses, and gives a finished surface to cooling asphalt. Operator barricades newly installed asphalt to prevent damages. Ensure the job site is clean and free of excess material.

Requirements:
  • Proficient in operating a roller for asphalt projects on roads and state highways.
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills, ability to read and write.
  • Asphalt Operator must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
  • Complete and abide by all safety trainings and other provided trainings.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be a team player
  • 2 to 5 years of experience as a Roller Operator required
Job Duties:
  • Follow foreman's direction as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
  • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required and ensure equipment is safely and securely stored
  • Advise foreman of any requirements for maintenance and/or repairs
  • Participate in routine maintenance
  • Use equipment to level roads and ensure proper drainage
  • Operating equipment safely and efficiently by following proper loading and unload procedures
Physical Demands:
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to unexpected events quickly.
  • This position may require long periods of standing and being subjected to adverse weather conditions.
  • Consistently wear common protective or safety equipment.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed outdoors.
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Must be available for night and day shifts
