About the College/Unit/Department
The Office of Global Engagement ( OGE) at the University of Georgia is dedicated to expanding the global reach of our institution's instructional, research, and service missions, facilitating the university's thoughtful and effective participation and leadership in the interconnected world of the twenty-first century. OGE is comprised of three units: Immigration Services, International Initiatives, and Global Education-the latter including UGA's residential centers in Oxford, England and Cortona, Italy-with all areas supported by dedicated Finance and Operations staff. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent

1-2 years of DSO experience (preferred, not required)
Position Summary
This position provides immigration advising and case processing support to international students admitted to degree or non-degree academic programs at the University of Georgia. Performance of these duties involves the advisor to use discretion and independent judgment relating to immigration options, case and benefit eligibility, and filings, and compliance with federal regulations on the part of both the student and the University. This position may work with J-1 sponsored students, Fulbright students, and J-1 student-interns in addition to F-1 students. Full knowledge of University tech systems, including but not limited to e-mail and calendar systems, SAVE, Banner, Sunapsis, and Athena, is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Experience working with international populations.
  • Experience with immigration regulations, legal issues, and SEVIS functionalities.
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with Windows, MS Office, and Excel.
  • Experience using Sunapsis and Banner is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills

  • Sit or stand for long periods in front of a computer, listen and speak to advisees.
  • Speak in a classroom setting for training for campus units.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (A/RO).
  • Immigration advisor for F-1 and J-1 student visa categories, and their dependents in F-2 or J-2 non-immigrant status, including IEP students.
  • Process student cases through Sunapsis (embedded RTI and batch functionality) to SEVIS, and also in SEVIS RTI (real-time interface).

  • Assist the Director in ensuring Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) reporting and data tracking for F and J students and dependents to ensure compliance and the processing of cases in a timely fashion.

  • Manage F and J student immigration advising content updates to office information hand-outs, orientation presentations, cover letters, support letters, and website content.
