ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Management Specialist C&I is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of projects while developing accurate cost estimates that support competitive bids and profitable execution. This role leads project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination efforts to ensure all deliverables meet quality, safety, and contractual requirements. Key responsibilities include reviewing project specifications, preparing detailed estimates, forecasting labor and material costs, and collaborating with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams. The position oversees day to day project activities, monitors progress, mitigates risks, and maintains clear communication with clients and stakeholders. Ultimately, the C&I Project Mgmt Specialist ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational objectives. Sturgeon Electric's Commercial and Industrial (C&I)electrical construction division specializes in large-scale commercial electrical projects, telecommunications, traffic signalization, gas distribution, high voltage distribution service and maintenance to clients. We also offer design-build and pre-construction services and has in-house pre-fabrication and AutoCAD capabilities. Essential Functions
- Project Planning & Pre Construction
- Develops project scopes, schedules, and budget
- Reviews plans, specifications, contracts, and job requirements
- Conducts constructability reviews and identifies risks early
- Coordinates with estimating to validate budgets and cost assumption
- Budgeting, Cost Control & Forecasting
- Tracks financial performance, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor
- Issues purchase orders and manages procurement
- Reviews monthly cost projections and justifies over budget variances
- Approves invoices and change orders
- Scheduling & Coordination
- Builds and maintains detailed project schedules using tools such as MS Project or Primavera
- Sequences activities to ensure efficient project flow
- Coordinates with field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain schedule integrity
- Contract & Document Management
- Manages all project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes
- Reviews, negotiates, and administers subcontract agreements
- Ensures all work aligns with contract terms, codes, and industry standards
- Field Oversight & Quality Control
- Oversees field operations to keep work compliant, safe, and of high quality
- Conducts site walks with foremen, superintendents, inspectors, and clients
- Manages punch lists and ensures proper close out documentation
- Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Enforces company and OSHA safety policies on site
- Conducts safety meetings and audits
- Ensures required permits and inspections are obtained on schedule
- Stakeholder Communication
- Serves as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors
- Leads project meetings and provides regular status reports
- Ensures proactive communication regarding schedule impacts, cost changes, and risks
- Problem Solving & Risk Mitigation
- Identifies issues early and develops corrective action plans
- Manages delays, scope gaps, and unforeseen conditions
- Ensures contingency plans are in place to protect project schedule and budget
- Team Leadership
- Provides clear direction to field teams and subcontractors
- Promotes collaboration between office and field operations
- Supports training, coaching, and development of project staff
- Project Closeout
- Ensures completion of final inspections, commissioning, and turnover requirements
- Gathers O&M manuals, warranties, and as built documentation
- Leads final financial reconciliation and lessons learned reviews
- Other duties as assigned

ABOUT YOU
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of field leadership experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in project management and/or estimating within the electrical construction industry
- Preferred certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI)
Preferred Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
- Journeyman Electrician License - preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of specifications, contract interpretation, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services
- Solid knowledge of the N.E.C. and all relevant local codes
- Proven ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other documents as they relate to electrical work
- Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office applications / BlueBeam.
- Strong knowledge of Accubid, JD Edwards Enterprise 1, Earned Value Management, and standard project management processes and principles
- Proven ability to prepare, update and report construction schedules (resource loading, cost loading, earned value updating)
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to speak and present publicly, with both internal and external stake holders
- Self-driven with the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time and a strong ability to navigate ambiguity
- Occasional travel will be required through the United States

- Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
