DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego's School of Social Sciences (SoSS) includes a diverse group of outstanding departments, programs, centers, and research units engaged in increasing opportunities for interdisciplinary study and research.

Comprised of 16 academic departments and programs, and a wide range of interdisciplinary research units, Social Sciences is the largest academic School at UCSD in terms of numbers of faculty and undergraduate students. More than 40 percent of all bachelor's degrees awarded at UCSD are in the social sciences. Four of the top ten majors, Psychology, Economics, Communication, and Political Science, are Social Science disciplines. Social Sciences is home to nationally and internationally recognized faculty, including three Nobel Laureates and four MacArthur "genius" Grant recipients. Virtually all of the School's programs rank in the top 20 nationally and many rank in the top 10.

Social Sciences has over 270 full-time faculty; 650 graduate students; and approximately one third of the campus' undergraduate majors (13,000) with a total annual course enrollment exceeding 115,000 students. In addition, there are more than 300 staff and 240 student employees housed in 11 buildings across the main campus.

Reporting to the Senior Assistant Dean, this position provides senior-level leadership and strategic support for the School of Social Sciences, particularly in advancing revenue generating programs such as the Chancellor's Educational Innovation (EI) and Dean's Research Accelerators initiatives. The incumbent leads the exploration, planning, development, and implementation of major school-wide programs, research initiatives, and revenue-generating efforts, while strengthening the School's research portfolio and external partnerships.

These programs include self-supporting educational programs (e.g., master's, executive, and certificate programs) and large-scale, interdisciplinary, multi-investigator research proposals increasing contract and grant funding. The incumbent will identify opportunities and work directly with relevant faculty, campus partners, external partners, and funding agencies to bring proposals to fruition.

The incumbent will also be responsible for student affairs related initiatives, including leading the School's Student Affairs Community of Practice (SACOP). Serving as the data analyst for student affairs metrics, with skills in data analysis, and report writing in enterprise tools and/or data visualization software.
