About the Role

Gain hands on naval architecture experience as aSummer Intern in Matson's Vessel Operations and Engineering Department. The Intern rate of pay is $25/hour. This position requires the successful candidate to work on-site at our Walnut Creek corporate office.

What you'll do:

  • Enter new electronic vessel drawings into Matson's Document Management System (DMS) and add document metadata to allow easy location.
  • Review existing vessel documents in Matson's DMS, confirm / modify / add metadata as necessary. Remove duplicate files. Combine multiple sheets into single documents.
  • Attend occasional department meetings in person or remotely, some of which may be outside normal business hours due to time zone changes.
  • Review Matson's intranet and internet and identify out-of-date documents, locate up-to-date documents, and forward to the Matson Corporate Communications team.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and analysis, as needed.

You have these skills:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to characterize vessel documentation and understand revision methodology.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat - able to combine multiple single-sheet PDFs into multi-page PDFs.
  • Willingness to learn the OnBase document management system.

And these qualifications:

  • Rising Junior or Senior in active pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering or completed undergraduate degree and entering master's degree in Naval Architecture / Marine Engineering or related field in the fall of 2026.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The hourly rate is posted for this position.
