DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Sexual Offenders Assessment Board Investigator, you will be responsible for conducting pre-sentencing and pre-parole investigations of persons convicted of sexually violent offenses. This work involves conducting personal and criminal background investigations, as well as face-to-face forensic interviews with convicted sex offenders and collateral interviews with various individuals in the community. These investigations and reports are used in conducting sexually violent predator assessments for the courts and risk assessments for the Parole Board. You will also collaborate with a wide range of professionals, including law enforcement, legal personnel, and social service practitioners, to gather all necessary information for comprehensive investigation reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may vary to allow applicants to meet statutory deadlines. This will be discussed in detail during the interview process.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Work Area: Although this position is home-headquartered, the ideal candidate would reside within the geographic area covered by the SOAB's Scranton region. More specifically, this position may be responsible for conducting investigations in the following counties, among others: Bradford, Carbon, Clinton, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Wayne and Wyoming.
  • Regular travel to the counties in the SOAB's Scranton region is required to collect information, conduct interviews, and attend monthly in-person staff meetings. Please be advised that assignments may also fluctuate based on need.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $61,903.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in victims assistance, social welfare case work, law enforcement, or probation/parole which included six months of investigation of sexually violent crimes, sex crime counseling work or sex offender parole supervision and a bachelor's degree.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania driver's license.

Other Requirements:

  • You must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Scranton Region (which includes Bradford, Carbon, Clinton, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montour, Northumberland, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, Wayne, and Wyoming counties) by the time of hire.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
