Compliance Specialist

Position location is flexible and may office from a branch in Winona, MN - Denton, TX or High Point, NC

Full-time Shift(s): MON TUE WED THU FRI 7:00am - 5:00pm

OVERVIEW:

Working as Full-time Compliance Specialist, you will play a key role in Fastenal's strategic compliance with evolving federal requirements, including Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2, NIST 800-171, ITAR, DFARS and safeguarding Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). The Internal Auditor will ensure adherence to federal standards, mitigate regulatory risk and support operational excellence within a dedicated compliance framework.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

o Documenting and evaluating processes across departments/locations handling Federal Contract Information (FCI), CUI, ITAR and DFARS data to ensure compliance with federal mandates

o Assisting in designing and implementing robust internal controls, including system access protocols, business process controls and audit logging aligned with CMMC Level 2 requirements

o Developing and performing audit test plans to validate compliance with NIST 800-171 controls and federal cybersecurity standards

o Conducting risk assessments for locations and servicing impacted federal contracts

o Creating Process Improvement Plans (PIPs) and delivering remedial training to address compliance gaps and strengthen organizational readiness for federal audits

o Preparing detailed audit reports and presenting findings to leadership

o Investigating reported or suspected unethical activity related to federal compliance and ensuring corrective actions are documented and enforced

o Supporting strategic initiatives tied to Fastenal's federal compliance roadmap, including CMMC certification readiness, segregation of CUI business and system migration projects

o Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of CMMC Levels 1-2, NIST 800-171, ITAR, DFARS and related federal acquisition regulations

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

The following skills and qualifications are required for this position:

o Possess a current full valid driver's license issued in the country where the job is located (including successful completion of any applicable graduated license program for your state or province) as well as the ability to meet our driving record requirements to use a company vehicle, as needed

o Possess or working towards a degree in Business, Accounting or Cybersecurity OR compliance auditing related work experience

o Excellent written and oral communication skills

o Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (V-lookups and basic formatting)

o Highly motivated, self directed and customer service oriented

o Demonstrate strong organization, planning and prioritizing abilities

o Exhibit strong problem solving, deductive reasoning and decision making skills

o Demonstrate strong math aptitude, attention to detail and sense of urgency

o Learn and perform multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

o Work independently as well as in a team environment

o Demonstrate our core values of ambition, innovation, integrity and teamwork

o Pass the required drug screen (applicable in the US, Puerto Rico and Guam ONLY)

PREFERRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

o Strong understanding of federal regulatory frameworks (CMMC, ITAR, EAR, DFARS, FAR)

o Experience with FedRAMP-certified systems, ERP compliance audits and federal contract management

o Familiarity with export control regulations and origin-of-manufacture compliance under Buy American Act/Trade Agreements Act

COMPENSATION:

The base pay range for this position is $50,000 - 85,000. In addition to base pay, this position is also eligible for a bonus and/or commission.
