| Summary |
The
ASL/English Interpreter provides communication access for individuals who rely on American Sign Language (
ASL) to communicate and interact with individuals who do not use
ASL. This role ensures effective and accurate interpretation to support inclusive communication in workplace and institutional settings. |
| Essential Role Responsibilities |
- Provide clear and accurate ASL/English interpretation for individuals who rely on ASL for communication.
- Facilitate effective communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals and hearing individuals who do not know ASL.
- Interpret in a variety of settings including meetings, trainings, events, and daily workplace interactions.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to ethical interpreting standards.
- Support accessible communication across programs, services, and activities as needed.

- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Certified Interpreters: Current professional certification (e.g., RID - Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, or equivalent).
- Uncertified Interpreters: Formal training in ASL interpreting or relevant interpreting experience.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and best practices for effective communication access.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours based on assignment needs.
