THE POSITION

Are you a cultural resources professional with collaboration, outreach, and education skills? The Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office (PA SHPO) is seeking an Above Ground Supervisor to coordinate the office's above ground environmental review program. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this supervisory role, you will oversee the consideration and protection of above ground properties which may be affected by state and federal projects; plan and implement above ground education and outreach; and help to guide proactive research, documentation, and survey efforts. This position will serve as the primary point of contact related to PA SHPO's programmatic agreement with PennDOT, FHWA, and USACE. You will have the opportunity to assist with preparing and implementing a comprehensive statewide historic preservation plan as well as the preparation and implementation of a strategic plan for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC).

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. SHPO staff has the opportunity to work form home, with the exception of site visits/field work, leadership meetings and one (1) day a month in the office in Harrisburg. Specific days will be determined according to bureau needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year in the Historic Preservation Specialist classification; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Architectural History, American History, Archaeology, or a closely related field plus three years experience working on an architectural survey, an architectural restoration and preservation project, historic preservation program, or a preservation assistance project; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must meet or exceed the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards found at https://www.nps.gov/articles/sec-standards-prof-quals.htm.
  • You must have experience in advising and assisting state and federal agencies, organizations and or individuals with the consideration of historic properties in their project planning.
  • You must have experience interpreting and applying National Park Service Guidance with regards to the evaluation of historic properties for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
  • You must have two years of supervisory experience.
  • You must have experience in public outreach, education, and public speaking.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Excellent computer and word processing skills using MS Office products and data management systems such as PA-SHARE.
  • Demonstrate excellent ability working with a team of individuals and independently.
