In this role you will get to support and mirror many responsibilities of the CPL/VS Supervisor in their absence or as needed, and also serves as the primary coordinator for training and onboarding new VS team members. Additionally, you will use your experience across a variety of laboratory animal medicine ( LAM) species, solid foundation in anesthesia, surgical procedures, and effective training methodologies to help others grow in their knowledge.

Leadership & Operational Support

  • Serve as the acting supervisor for LAR Veterinary Services staff and the Central Procedures Laboratory during Supervisor absences or when delegated.
  • Provide daytoday coordination of staff workflow, scheduling, task delegation, and routine check-ins.
  • Foster a supportive environment where team members can develop independence while ensuring smooth daily operations.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Act as a primary liaison with research laboratories: coordinate upcoming procedures, advise on protocols, manage scheduling, and facilitate required documentation.
  • Meet with potential clients to support project planning, protocol development, and estimation of project costs.
  • Build and maintain tissue collection partnerships across CVM departments and external collaborators.

Training & Development

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continual refinement of the VS onboarding and training program.
  • Serve as the goto resource for new employee training needs.

  • Promote professional advancement for research staff, including opportunities for additional certifications and skill development.

Quality & Compliance

  • Assist in the development, revision, and dissemination of SOPs, job aids, and departmental training materials across all of LAR.
  • Ensure all staff receive proper training and documentation related to these materials.
  • Maintain a clean and compliant work environment in accordance with infectious disease standards.
  • Handle medical, biological, and infectious waste according to regulatory guidelines.
  • Adhere to all radiation safety, OSHA, IACUC, USDA, AAALAC, and Environmental Health and Safety requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who is passionate about research support, team development, and contributing to a highfunctioning, collaborative laboratory environment.
Other Responsibilities

  • Support the design, execution, and management of increasingly complex research projects.
  • Perform advanced technical tasks independently, adapting procedures as research needs evolve.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement within the department.
  • Lifting up to 60 pounds on a frequent basis, with or without reasonable accommodation.
