The Impact You Will Have

Blue Cross and Blue Sheild of MN is looking for a Senior Public Relations Specialist to join our team!

The Senior Public Relations Specialist will play a key role in managing the organization's media visibility, reputation, and internal communication needs. Leveraging prior agency experience, this individual excels in dynamic, fastmoving environments-bringing structure, strategic thinking, and calm efficiency to complex or chaotic situations while still meeting tight deadlines. This role will lead media monitoring and reporting efforts, tracking where the organization appears in the news and across social platforms, identifying both red flags and positive coverage, and ensuring the right stakeholders are informed. Serving as the primary PR point of contact for various business areas based on organizational needs, the specialist will draft announcements, holding statements, and website language. They will also partner closely with teams such as Provider Relations to support ongoing communications initiatives and strengthen alignment across the organization. Reports to Public Relations and External Communications Leader.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic communications support for key initiatives across various departments in the organization.
  • Identify and define business challenges and opportunities and develop strategies and tactics to effectively communicate updates with external audiences.
  • Support the development of social media and blog content through visual and written storytelling.
  • Support PR leadership in crisis communications work.
  • Draft announcements, holding statements, website language and other assets to support key initiatives.
  • Provide informed communication recommendations to internal leadership and business partners, considering multiple factors, risks and opportunities.
  • Monitoring and reporting on PR related activities.
  • Maintain an uptodate understanding of healthcare industry news, trends, and regulatory developments to inform strategic communications recommendations and workplans.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience in effectively communicating with top-level executives and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively within the company.
  • Demonstrable skills in media relations and social media development.
  • Demonstrated ability to present complex business ideas, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively at a senior executive level.
  • Demonstrates highly effective writing skills and verbal presentation skills that drives impactful stakeholder action.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to work quickly under pressure
  • High school diploma (or equivalency) and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of health industry preferred.
  • Video and other visual content development skills

Compensation and Benefits:

Pay Range: $79,100.00 - $104,800.00 - $130,500.00 Annual

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.

Our hybrid approach is designed to balance flexibility with meaningful in-person connection and collaboration. We come together in the office two days each week - most teams designate at least one anchor day to ensure team interaction. These in-person moments foster relationships, creativity, and alignment. The rest of the week you are empowered to work remote.
