| Primary Purpose of Position |
The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University invites applications for a nationally recognized and experienced thought and or practice leader to serve as the Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professor in the Department of History and Political Science. This distinguished faculty member will contribute to the department's teaching mission by offering Political Science courses while advancing the University's public, scholarly, and civic profile through research, engagement, and leadership in the field.
The appointment is a 9-month, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, initially awarded as a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal for a 3-year term.
The Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professor reports to the Chair of the Department of History and Political Science and is expected to play a visible and impactful role in shaping conversations around politics, policy, and democratic practice at the local, state, and national levels.
The primary purpose of the Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professorship is to recruit an accomplished and nationally recognized scholar-practitioner whose distinguished record of professional practice, scholarly research and/or creative activity, excellence in teaching, and service reflects the highest standards of the academy. The successful candidate will teach core Political Science courses, including Electoral Politics, The Constitution, Civil Liberties, and Statistics, while serving as a dynamic mentor to students and junior faculty and advancing experiential and service-learning opportunities. This position plays a critical role in advancing the strategic priorities of the Department of History and Political Science through contributions to program assessment, fundraising, grant development, and service at the department, college, and university levels. As the department expands its academic offerings and civic reach, the Henry E. Frye Distinguished Professor will help shape innovative curricula, strengthen student success, and elevate the department's scholarly and public impact within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Department of History and Political Science is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in History. The Department has over 110 majors.
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts.
CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members.

| Minimum Requirements |
A post baccalaureate degree in a field related to Political Science, or other terminal degree, with significant teaching/research/administrative experience, preferably in a higher-education environment. Candidates must have a distinguished record of scholarly and/or professional works and accomplishments that reflect the integration of learning, discovery and engagement. |

A minimum of 2- years of demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, field experience and service activities, consistent with eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
Prior academic experience in a higher education setting, with experience in government, corporate/community interactions, extramural fundraising, and related administrative capability is preferred. |
